Until you see the box for the new Stranger Things The Upside Down 75810 Lego Set, it is hard to imagine how LEGO could create a Stranger Things set that is true to the original series. There is so much about this TV show that has become iconic to the brand. The alternate world of The Upside Down has an uneasy feeling to it and mirrors the real world so awkwardly and perfectly at the same time. The styling of the real world has that beautiful 1980s aesthetic where you forget that this is a modern Netflix show. So, how could fans recreate all this in a LEGO brick construction?

The answer lies in the structure of the build and the amount of consideration in the design
This set focuses on one building – the Byers’ house – from two different perspectives. Builders can create all the different rooms in the house as it would appear in the real dimension. There is the living room, dining room, Will’s bedroom and the front porch. Every room and feature of the house has a double that sits upside down underneath the base place. The Upside Down is literally upside down. This gives the set a unique look when finished and a higher level of difficulty. The set also has a simple base and some trees on either side to act as the exterior for the scenes. What is clever about this design is that these trees also act as structural supports. Flip the set over and you can easily switch between dimensions as you play.
The designers have put a lot of thought into the different elements of the house, with alternative bricks for each feature. This allows builders to mirror the normal dimension and stay true to the design from the show. Yet, there are also little touches to the Upside Down style and color scheme that give it a spooky feel. Also, the colors of the real world – from the greenery to the patrol car – have that retro feel. There are also 8 major characters as minifigures and all kinds of accessories taken straight from the show.
This is a detailed set that Stranger Things fans will appreciate a lot
To be honest, the Stranger Things The Upside Down 75810 Lego Set is the sort of set that you need to see in real life to fully appreciate. There will be times when players might curse the 16+ rating of this 2,200 piece set because of the complexity of the structure and mirror image. A tough Lego set to make. But, it is all worth it when you complete the model and get to flip between the dimensions.
