With all the excitement that is building regarding the new Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, there are a lot of toys and modelling sets being promoted to recapture the interest of fans. Naturally, many of these will be from the upcoming movie but the beauty of Star Wars LEGO sets is that pretty much anyone, anything and anywhere can be recreated in small bricks. A great example is the range of Star Wars Rebels Animated Series LEGO sets that are released in 2015, which allow fans of this cartoon to bring their favorite scenes to life through exciting vehicles and minifigures. Fans can pick their side – Rebel or Imperial – and blast off for an exciting adventure and some epic battles.
Some of the Top Star Wars Rebels Series LEGO Sets
LEGO Star Wars Captain Rex’s AT-TE 75157 Set
Every Star Wars Rebels character needs a strong vehicle to transport them across the terrain and keep them safe from harm. In the LEGO Star Wars Captain Rex’s AT-TE 75157 set, Captain Rex has taken the interesting route of upgrading an old AT-TE unit with some curious modifications. The result is a unique looking model that looks great on the shelf and offers lots of elements for creative play.
There are cranes, movable legs and a build in handle for ease of use. This vehicle, with its detailed interior and striking exterior, is under attack from two Imperial minifigures Imperial Inquisitor Fifth Brother and a Stormtrooper. This is the perfect time for Rex, Commander Gregor and Commander Wolffe to test out their upgrades. Players need to climb the ladders, man the rotating gun and open the rear hatch to release the clones to be sure of certain victory.
LEGO Star Wars 75053 The Ghost Building Set
When recreating some of the key ships from the Star Wars Rebels animated series, one of the models that comes immediately to mind is The Ghost. This Rebel ship is recreated into a detailed, fully-loaded LEGO set that is fun to build and play with, with all its moving parts and minifigures. Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla and Zeb Orrelios are all available for many adventures and battles against the Imperial troops – luckily there is also a Stroomtrooper included to take the brunt of the blasters and spring-loaded shooters – and the ship also contains a cargo hold and detachable escape pods to add to the adventure.
The gang can fly along, shooting at the enemy with their 360 turret guns, come in to land at key sites and even providing a place for The Phantom to dock, should players own that too.
LEGO Star Wars TIE Advanced Prototype Toy Set
Of course if you really want to create some action packed battles between the rebels and the Imperial Forces then you need an Imperial ship and crew to battle against – one player taking the good side and the other taking the evil one. The LEGO TIE Advanced Prototype set is a great example here because this adaptable ship is the perfect match. It has an opening top hatch for the pilot to climb aboard, folding wings that allow players to easily transform from landing mode into flying mode and spring-loaded shooters to aim at the Rebels.
This ship is designed to be the best that the Inquisitor has in his fleet, so naturally he is available to pilot it, but there is also a TIE fighter pilot and imperial officer to choose from. Whichever players choose, with their great tech and personal weaponry, it is sure to be quite a fight.
LEGO Star Wars Imperial Assault Carrier 75106 Set
One Imperial TIE Fighter is great when you’ve only got a couple of Rebel fighters to worry about but what happens when you have a whole army of them to deal with? The answer to that is to build the Imperial Assault Carrier, a vehicle with the capacity to carry four miniaturized TIE fighters into battle and a lifting handle to help users carry everything from location to location.
The Assault Carrier itself has plenty of firepower to defend its precious cargo, with the rotating gun turret, dual stud blaster and spring-loaded shooters, but its is the cargo that is most important. In addition to the two TIE pilots and an Astromech Droid, players can use minifigures of Agent Kallus, Imperial Officer and Sabine Wren and they have blaster pistols to defend themselves on the ground. If you want to plan an epic re-enactment of some of the Star Wars Rebels episodes, this is surely the way to go.
LEGO Star Wars Wookiee Gunship
Quite often the choice of ship to buy and build comes down to that side that you want to align with, whether you want to play as an Imperial leader or a Rebel fighter; however, there are ships and models that lean in a different direction and the LEGO Star War Wookiee Gun Ship set is ideal for fans of wookiees. The crew available to pilot this craft in mini-figure form are Wullffwarro, Kanan Jarrus and 2 Wookiees and they are clearly not out for a leisurely cruise around the planet.
As the sales tag says, this ship is clearly “battle ready”, with its elevating top cannon, movable front cannons and rapid shooters, and it needs to be because the enemy is sure to be on their tail. This set is perfect for recreating battles from the Rebels Animated Series and works great with other Imperial models.
LEGO Star Wars Ezra’s Speeder Bike
If you are in the mood for something a little more exciting and fast paced in a Star Wars Rebels LEGO kit then perhaps the model of Ezra’s Speeder Bike will be more up your street. The model of the speeder itself is great fun to build and to play with because it brings this cool item to life and adds a sense of adventure to stories with its shape and potential for transporting Ezra around in dangerous chases and environments.
The bike measure in at 1x6x2 inches in driving mode and has extending stalks and blasters. What makes this set even more interesting for storytelling is that there are two additional figures in the box and an Imperial Speeder bike; the stormtrooper is there to give chase and add a sense of peril while Sabine Wren, complete with pistols, provides great back-up or a secondary driver.
LEGO Star Wars AT-DP 75083 Toy Set
Something completely different again, but incredibly fun and interesting for keen fans of the Star Wars franchise and the Rebels Animated series is the LEGO Star Wars AT-DP military walker set. It would have been easy for the designers at LEGO to create a simple, stationary model to show of the shape of this iconic structure but instead they made something with articulated legs that can really walk around and patrol the area in pursuit of Rebels.
These poseable legs increase the possibilities for play, and they were already high thanks to the weaponry on board – the spring-loaded shooters and laser cannon – the opening top section and the minifigures. Load your choice of character into the cockpit – Agent Kallus, a Stormtrooper or one of the AT-DP Pilots – and seek out the enemy from a great vantage point.
