The chance to build a Death Star out of LEGO is something that many Star Wars fans and LEGO collectors will not pass on. The LEGO Star Wars Death Star 10188 model, however, takes the building experience to a new level with a massive 41x42cm spherical structure that scales down the interior and exterior of the original base with great detail. Fans can spend hours crafting this 3D model to create the perfect replication and there is even a small TIE fighter to accompany it. The finished structure is something to be admired, but there is so much more to this set than an elaborate building set.
This finished LEGO Star Wars model provides a great platform for creative play thanks to the numerous rooms and characters involved.
This is a LEGO set to be explored so that the adventures of episodes IV and VI can be played out to great effect. This is why there are so many different rooms to build in this Death Star model: players can start by rescuing Princess Leia from the detention cell block, evade the Stormtroopers by dashing across the ship and swinging over the chasm and then even find themselves in the dreaded trash compactor unit. Up in the control room, Darth Vader and his Imperial army can defend the ship from attack but there is also the conference room for strategy meetings. The complexity of the ship’s interior and the potential for action is enhanced by the range of Star Wars minifigures included in this set. Luke, Han, Leia, Darth Vader, Chewbacca and the two droids are a must for some of the more iconic scenes, but the inclusion of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Grand Moff Tarkin and R2-Q5 add greater depth. In addition to this, there is a second Luke figure (Jedi Knight Luke) for ever greater authenticity.
The beauty of this LEGO Death Star model set is the potential for creative play and a massive range of re-enactments, which is why it is so important that this is a replica of the original Death Star, and not the “new and improved” model from The Force Awakens. As impressive as that enormous structure was, it doesn’t have the depth and history of the original. By rebuilding the first model down to the finest details and creating all of these iconic rooms, players can not only play out the iconic scenes with Luke and Vader in the Emperor’s throne room, they can take the wide selection of mini-figures and create endless battles and Star Wars adventures.
