The LEGO City series lets players create imaginative stories where they keep the city running smoothly and improve it through the actions of the mini-figure characters. The LEGO City Police range is one that is sure to be high on the must-have list of kids because it is so important for the city and such an exciting prospect with lots of potential.
Games of cops and robbers are always fun and here players can build stations, chase after criminals in cars and helicopters, send in the dog unit or even stage a jail breakout as the crooks. There are so many sets and the LEGO City range has only expanded with new building kits. Patrol the city street, have stakeouts in the swamp and detain the criminals in Prison Island.
Exciting LEGO Police sets to maintain law and order in LEGO City
LEGO CITY Prison Island 60130 Set
With all of these bad guys to catch in LEGO City, and their tendency to try and escape, it made sense for city officials to give the go ahead for LEGO City Prison Island. This 2016 set should be the ideal place to keep crooks behind bars and players get a chance to build this impressive 2-level structure and prison yard to keep the inmates under control.
The yard has cameras and searchlight, there is a guard tower and a helipad for the police helicopter patrolling from above. The police – a male and female officer and the chief – also have their own boat, walkie-talkies, flashlights and handcuffs. The problem is that the four crooks – three male and one female – are pretty sneaky and have devised an escape plan. There is the choice of the crook’s boat or the hot air balloon for a dramatic break out and breakout functions within the sewer system.
LEGO CITY Prison Island Starter Set 60127
The breakout from Prison Island is brilliantly imagined in the 2016 LEGO City Prison Island Starter Set. Here the two crooks have a chance to get away by escaping in their highspeed watercraft – they just have to get all the way to the jetty in time to get to the hidden stash of loot! The crooks are keen to get out and escape the cops and have a flashlight to see their way through the darkness.
The problem is that they are also weighed down by the ball and chain and the police aren’t far behind. If they don’t hurry up, the policeman and policewomen will catch up to them in their police buggy, throw the handcuffs on them and radio for backup on the walkie-talkies. If they do get to the pier on time, all the police will be able to do is shout at them through the megaphone from the shore.
LEGO CITY Tire Escape 60126 Set
The boat of the starter set is one of the smarter ways for crooks to escape from Prison Island. The 2016 LEGO City Tire Escape, on the other hand, is perhaps one of the more futile. One of the crooks, armed with nothing more that his woolly hat and an oar, has decided to climb into a tire, jump into the sea and attempt to paddle to the shore.
He may be a little harder to spot than the bigger boat but it doesn’t take long for the police to catch up to him once they know he is out there. The policeman minifigure has a life vest, handcuffs and a powerful scooter – pretty much everything he needs to reach the crook, capture him and bring him back to the Prison Island. The scooter has a great shape for powering through the waves, a great design and nice extras like the blue lights.
Lego City Crooks Island Set 60131
When the crooks manage to escape Prison Island and the pursuit by the cops, the safest place for them to go is the LEGO City Crooks Island. This 2016 set has everything that kids will need to hide the 2 crook minifigures from the law. There is a secret stash that is perfect for any loot or evidence that the crooks might want to hide, such as the backpack full of banknote of the incriminating wanted poster, and also a safe containing a gold bar.
The fireplace, table and mug mean that this could be a cosy hideout, if only the cops weren’t on their way in the helicopter. There is no time to lose in coming up with a plan. Either break into the safe with the welding torch and try to escape with the loot on the water scooter, or hide in the container hideout and hope the cops don’t find you.
LEGO CITY Police Patrol Boat 60129 Set
Of course not all escaping crooks are able to get away and make it to the security of Crook’s Island. Those that don’t could find themselves handcuffed in the LEGO City Police Patrol Boat. Our two male and female crooks have gotten hold of a boat, complete with anchor and chain, and are pretty confident about an easy getaway.
Unfortunately for them, the policeman and policewoman are just as confident because their impressive 2016 patrol boat is equipped to find them with ease, whether it is day or night. By day they can use the binoculars to survey the water and communicate via the walkie-talkies. By night, the crooks have to make do with flashlights while the cops have a big searchlight. When the cops catch the crooks, they can throw them in the boat’s cell. All that is left is to reach Prison Island before the crook’s find the cell’s breakout function.
LEGO CITY Police Pursuit 60128 Set
Back on dry land, work doesn’t stop for the police of LEGO City and there are always more criminals to catch and send to a cell on Prison Island. In the LEGO City Police Pursuit 2016 building kit, one of the city’s best officers is patrolling the streets in his police supercar and sees a situation developing ahead. A crook has stolen a safe and is trying to break into it with his welding torch and crowbar to get at the banknotes inside.
By setting up a roadblock with the two police cones and radioing for back-up, the cop could create a trap for the crook as he tries to escape the scene in his pick-up truck. If that fails, the only option is a good old-fashioned car chase through the city. The speed of the supercar means that the cop should easy catch up the crook and manage to arrest him.
LEGO City Police 60047 Police Station Set
The first place to start with a LEGO Police collection has to be the main city Police station where all the characters can work on their cases, the criminals are safely locked up in the cells and all the necessary vehicles can be kept, ready for the next emergency call. This attractive building has three stories with a control room, jail cells, a helipad on the roof for the accompanying helicopter and space for the police car and motorbike.
This means that two of the crooks mini-figures can be behind bars while the three policemen and one policewoman check out the information from the radar dish. The cops need to prepared because a third criminal is on is way in a tow truck and is planning a daring break out. If he can pull down the break-out windows on the cells and his friends can get past the security cameras, they may make it out under their noses!
LEGO City Police 60044 Mobile Police Unit Set
The LEGO Police Station is the ideal base for all the police officers in the city but sometimes they need a different approach in order to track down the criminals and be sure of a result. The LEGO City Mobile Police unit is the ideal centre for remote operations because it attaches to a trailer that can be transported via a truck and placed in any location.
On arrival, roadblocks can be laid out and the unit can be opened up to reveal the control room and computer screens where the two policeman mini-figures can watch the movements of their target. When the time is right, players can make their move, chasing after the crook with handcuffs at the ready, and hopefully retrieve the money that has been stolen. Once he has been arrested he can be thrown into the cell next to the control room and the cops can have a break at the coffee machine.
Lego City Police Dog Unit 60048 Set
The work of the policemen and policewomen is crucial if LEGO City is going to be kept under control but there is an additional unit of public servants that kids can add to their police collection – the LEGO Police Dog Unit. LEGO police dogs are adorable additions to the team and this set has two, with their respective handlers.
The dogs have been driven to a suspected hideout in the back of the unit’s off-road vehicle and are waiting for the two crooks to come out alongside the cops, who are armed with flashlight and handcuffs. The problem is that the hideout has a periscope and the cover has been blown. The team need to chase after the crooks as they flee in their hot rod car and retrieve the stolen money and crystals. If they dogs can subdue the men and let the cops cuff them, there is a juicy bone as a reward.
LEGO City Police 60046 Helicopter Surveillance Set
It is important to keep a close eye on the actions of criminals to stay ahead of their plans and players will enjoy tracking them down with the LEGO Police Helicopter Surveillance kit. In this set, the two crooks think that they have nothing to worry about in their secure, remote hideout on the outskirts of town and are happily counting the gold bars they have stolen and admiring the crystals.
What they don’t know is that the police helicopter is circling the area waiting for the right time to start their raid and arrest the criminals. The helicopter, which has a detailed engine and sliding door for easy access, is ready to drop the three policemen into position, but it wont be easy down there. There are lots of places to hide, with the barrel and crook’s car, and while they have handcuffs, the crooks have a crowbar.
LEGO City Police 60042 High Speed Police Chase Set
There are lots of different stories that kids can create when playing with LEGO police mini-figures and sets but one of the most exciting is a police chase. As with many of the police themed sets, players have the choice of either being the cop or the robber. With the LEGO City High Speed Police Chase it may actually be more fun to be the criminal because these mini-figures get to ride around on motorbikes and attempt stunts on the ramps as the police try and chase after you in their car.
One of the crooks has a backpack full of stolen money and the police need to find a way of stopping him if they are to give it back to the owner. Perhaps the crook will crash into the trashcan or fire hydrant, giving the police enough time to put the cuff on them and make the arrest.
Lego City Helicopter Transporter 60049 Set
Not all cops and robbers chase are as straight forward as being able to pursue the criminal through the city streets on a motorcycle or in a police car. In the LEGO City Police Helicopter Transporter set, the two crook minifigures have decided to go off-road along the dirt tracks of the outer limits in order to out run the police. They are making a speedy getaway on their dirt bike and dune buggy, keeping their stolen money and crystals as safe as possible, but they didn’t count on the police having a helicopter transporter following them.
This transporter has a helipad on the trailer with a small chopper. The two police mini-figures can use this to fly above all the obstacles, such as the bush and oil drum, and keep track of their targets. With its light weight and spinning rotors this helicopter can easily keep up and is sure to reach the crooks’ secret hideout in time.
LEGO City Police 60045 Police Patrol Set
Another LEGO Police chase scene that provides a different approach with a different set of vehicles is the LEGO City Police Police Patrol, which brings the action to the water. The buildable surveillance station, with its folding satellite dish, has detected some suspicious activity over at the lighthouse and the police need to load their police dinghy onto the trailer and take it out to the dock for a quick patrol of the area.
By using the rotating searchlight, players can locate the crook as he stashes his loot of crystals, gold and money in his little hideout off-shore. The cop in the dinghy has a life vest, binoculars, megaphone, walkie-talkie and handcuffs, so should be well-equipped to deal with the criminal. The crook is also well-armed, however, with a crowbar, flashlight and wrench, so he may still get away in his own dinghy if the police aren’t fast enough.
LEGO City Police 60043 Prisoner Transporter Set
With the chase over and the criminals detained, it is time to transport them to jail where they can’t harm the citizens of LEGO City any more. The LEGO Police Prisoner Transporter is the ideal mode of transport for driving these criminals across town because it is a big, armored van that separates the driver from the convict via a large jail door and has plenty of space.
The criminal minifigure, with his ball and chain, is locked up in the transporter by the policeman, who has a walkie-talkie, handcuffs and key for the door. The problem is that an accomplice has heard about the transportation and is on the way to rescue his partner on his ATV. With his crowbar and grappling hook, this extra man means business so the cop had better radio for back-up if he is to avoid trouble and keep the prisoner detained.
Take the action into the swamps and forest with these alternative LEGO Police building kits.
LEGO City Police Swamp Police Station 60069 Set
Not all of the criminal activity in LEGO City takes place on the city streets. There is also a large area of swamp land on the outskirts that is such a hotspot for crime, it requires its all station. With the LEGO City Police Swamp Police Station, players get the chance to build the ideal base for the four police officers.
The station has all of the modern conveniences that the officers need, such as the computers in the command room, a cell and a radar system, but there are constant reminders of the location, as the station is situated right on the edge of the swamp with its alligator, snakes and fire flies. There is also a police boat ready and waiting on the jetty, an off-road motorcycle and a crook’s boat floating nearby. Use the radar to locate the crooks and bring them to the holding cells.
LEGO City Police Crooks’ Hideout 60068 Set
A hideout for these sneaky crooks is an essential part of a LEGO City Swamp collection, which is why there is an entirely separate set called the Crook’s Hideout. This building should be the perfect place for the criminals to hide, count their stolen money and plan the next heist. The trouble for the three crook mini-figures included in this set is that they have been discovered by the police!
The two police officers have a choice of three vehicles to use to hunt them down – the helicopter to pinpoint their location from the sky, the 4×4 off-roader to transport them through the dense swamp and mud and a dinghy if they need to take to the water. The only option for the crooks is to try and make an escape in their boat and hope that the local alligator takes care of the police for them.
LEGO City Police Helicopter Pursuit 60067 Set
As the Crook’s Hideout set shows, a good set of LEGO Swamp Police officers needs a strong, versatile set of vehicles in order to get around this tricky terrain and catch up with the criminals during chases. The LEGO City Swamp Police Helicopter Pursuit definitely comes in handy when trying to stay on the trail of disappearing crooks, especially when they have a fast speedboat traveling over the alligator-infested swamp and a better idea of safe passages.
With some skillful flying, the pilot should be able to manoeuvre the helicopter and keep up with the boat. From there he needs to lower a police officer onto the boat to apprehend the crooks with the handcuffs and recover the backpack or stolen banknotes. It won’t be easy though because not only is there that alligator somewhere in the water, the crooks are armed with a crowbar to fight back.
LEGO City Police ATV Patrol 60065 Set
Alternatively, kids can play with the LEGO City Swamp Police ATV Patrol Vehicle. Again, players have the chance to choose their side in this cops and robbers scenario – with one police officer mini-figure to drive the ATV and one crook in his hideout – but the vehicle and accessories bring something a little different to the story.
This time it less about the chase and more about the bravery of the cop. On his patrol of the swamp, the officer has stumbled on the crook’s hideout and can see that he has stolen goods inside – a backpack full of banknotes. Ideally he could just go inside and arrest him with his handcuffs but the crooks also has a big snake that is blocking the way. If the police officer can find the snake grabber and safely deal with the reptile, he might be able to get to the criminal.
LEGO City Police Forest Station 4440 set
Elsewhere, up in the high altitude of the forest that stretches out above LEGO City, the police have decided to create a third police station to better patrol the area and provide a convenient base near the wilderness. The LEGO City Police Forest Station building set may be a little more simple in its design than the flashier main station, but it still has plenty of cells, equipment and vehicles to make sure that the two forest officers can do their job – such as the 4×4, the watchtower and the binoculars.
There is also a pilot on duty, who can land his helicopter on the station’s helipad, and he is the ideal eye in the sky to track the two robbers, who are fleeing on their ATV with a suitcase full of gold and money. It is tricky place to work, something that isn’t made any easier by the local bear.
LEGO City Police Heavy-Lift Helicopter 4439 Set
The officers of the LEGO Forest team can have their hands pretty full when dealing with the different crimes and problems that occur out in the wilderness. Sometimes they will find that they just don’t have all the equipment or man-power they need, which is where the LEGO City Police Heavy-Lift Helicopter can come in handy.
This massive aircraft measures in at 45cm long and 19cm high and is a step up from the patrol chopper, with its two moving rotors, articulated wheels and a large rear door for the cargo. There is room for three figures in the cockpit – two pilots and an extra forest policeman – and plenty of space in the hold for vehicles and supplies. This time, the pilots are bringing over a new ATV to aid the forest team in their pursuits, although players can use the helicopter for all sorts of missions.
