The product description for the LEGO Star Wars 7 First Order Special Force TIE Fighter is quite vague, which is understandable given the lack of information about the film, but they are justified when they say that this model has an “iconic design” and is the “perfection addition to any LEGO Star Wars toy collection. The TIE fighter, whether new fans realise it or not, has plenty of history and is a welcome inclusion in The Force Awakens.

The structure and its significance means that it is a great collectors piece for those that have LEGO sets of other fighters and it will look great out on display but there are moving elements and key accessories that mean that kids can play with it too. The instructions are to open the cockpit, let the crew on-board, load up the shooters and get ready for battle – a great starting point for users to then build their own adventures. The cockpit, which opens from the top and bottom, can hold two minifigures and players can choose between the two TIE fighters, a First Order officer and a crew member. Each figure can be kitted out with a helmet and blaster pistol but there is plenty of fire power on-board ship via the springloaded shooters. Another interesting little detail is the rotating antenna that should help the crew locate the enemy. There is plenty here to spark the imagination and once kids see this fighter up on the big screen they will be even more inspired to create epic scenes in their bedrooms.
