Star Wars 7 wasn’t afraid to bring excitement and carnage to the big screen, and this is brought to life with the new LEGO Star Wars Resistance X-Wing Fighter 75149 set. This 2016 Star Wars LEGO building set put players in the middle of a battle where lives are at stake. The building elements come in two parts. There is a building with a collapsible tower and flame elements, which is under attack from First Order troops, and a new X-Wing.
Another X-Wing from The Force Awakens?
There is one important question that needs to be addressed when considering this new X-Wing model. Is it really worth the money when most collectors already own Poe’s X-Wing from a previous set? After all, the first set represents the model that was seen in The Force Awakens while this one is clearly a different model – which its blue and grey color scheme. There are two ways of looking at this from the perspective of a LEGO collector and Star Wars fan. Firstly, there is just enough that is different with this model to make it interesting. There are new mini-figures, new accessories and details for the ship – such as a new joystick and fire extinguisher – and the hyperdrive is removable. This opens up lots of opportunities for new storylines of broken ships and theft. Secondly, you simply can’t have too many X-Wings in either a LEGO or Star Wars collection. Put a different pilot in the cockpit and you can have double to fire power in a battle against the First Order.
This Star Wars 7 X-Wing LEGO set still offers a great adventure for keen players.
At the moment, this model is all about Poe and his quest to save the home of Lor San Tekka from destruction. It is up to Poe to fly in and fight back against the Flametrooper (and any other troopers that players may wish to add). He can use the four spring-loaded shooters to attack from the air and the moving wings to dodge any retaliatory fire.
The addition of the retractable landing gear, opening cockpit and detachable BB-8 droid mean that Poe can land the craft and take the battle to the ground. Here he can use his blaster pistol to fire at the Flametrooper while Lor San Tekka tries to keep things under control with the fire extinguisher.. This may not be the most original idea for a 2016 Star Wars 7 LEGO set, but there is still plenty of opportunity to create great adventures.
