With so much emphasis on starships and the more familiar scenes of the first Star Wars Film, it is nice to see a LEGO set that puts so much time and effort into creating an alternative world. The LEGO Star Wars 10236 Ewok Village takes the action to Endor with an alternative build, some interesting new battle scenarios and a host of fan-favorite characters.
Build the perfect village for the Ewoks and defend it against Vader’s forces
The Ewok village is a fantastic addition to any Star Wars LEGO collection because it offers such a complex build. There are lots of detailed parts to this set that combine to create a treetop village that takes the player straight to the Endor of the films. The main settlement comprises of a series of buildings. There is a kitchen, bedroom, planning room and a place to store extra food.
Each room is raised up on platforms on the realistic looking tree trunks and connected by a delicate rope bridge. There are also leaves, vines and other natural elements to add to the feel of this jungle hideout. There are so many parts and details (with 3 instruction manuals) that this build becomes a labor of love to put it all together and create the best home possible for the Ewoks.
There is of course much more to this set than a building project. This LEGO set is designed to replicate the scenes from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which means that sooner or later, this village is going to come under attack. Thankfully, this little village is fully prepared for the worst and there are some cool features that players can use to fight off the enemy. The first is speeder rammer function. Just like in the movie, the Ewoks can use the moving log rammer to take down the troopers on the speeder. Meanwhile, the rest of our heroes have the option of heading to the secret tree trunk hideout or fighting back with weapons. This small village has everything that player could need. The troopers may have their blasters and pistols, but Luke and his allies have the choice of spears, crossbows and staffs. There is even secret stash of light-sabers and a catapult.
The other selling point of this LEGO Star Wars set is the selection of minifigures
Every great Star Wars LEGO set has a least one or two interesting characters in the box to make the build more interactive. With this set, players get 17 characters. This means that there are plenty of good guys and bad guys to choose from and no two battles need to be exactly the same. There are essentially three groups of minifigures. There are the 5 Ewoks, classic characters like Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2-D2 and C-3PO, and troops to sacrifice, like the 2 rebel soldiers, 2 scout troopers and 2 stormtroopers. In addition to this, many of these character models are “hard-to-find” designs. There are few sets that offer Endor versions of Leia, Luke and Han.
This range of characters, the complexity of the set and the diversity of the accessories means that the LEGO Star Wars 10236 Ewok Village is one of the most interesting sets in this theme. It is sure to provide hours of fun with the building project and countless storylines for creative play.
