LEGO would have been mad not to release one of their new Star Wars LEGO sets for Star Wars Day (that’s May the 4th to all those not fully immersed in the culture). Sure enough, among a range of all-new models for 2017, there is something a little bit special. The other new models are collectors items in the sense that they are new, very simple builds that all types of fans can add to collections of modern and classic Star Wars kits. This new edition, on the other hand, is something for the true fan that wants a detailed, complicated build to get their teeth into. Something they can show off on their shelves for a long time to come.

This new build is the LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder 75144
So what is it about this 2017 LEGO UCS Snowspeeder kit that makes it so much more special than the other new models that LEGO are bringing out?
The main difference here is the scale and the level of detail that has gone into this iconic vehicle. There is the clear sense that the designers took a lot of time perfecting the design so that it would fit the release date. There are 1703 pieces in this set that allow builders to former the iconic shape with its opening cockpit, rotating rear gun and other key components. It also comes with 2 minifigures and accessories including helmets, blaster pistols and electrobinoculars, as well as a detailed sticker set to add to the aesthetic appeal.
The other reason that this model is so appealing for a May 4th release is the subject matter
We cannot gloss over the fact that they have chosen a model from The Empire Strikes Back, rather than something from The Force Awakens or, even worse, Rogue One. This Rebel Snowspeeder is something that true fans will want, and the display stand and information card add to the appeal. Furthermore, the designers took their time to revise old designs. This isn’t the first Rebel Snowspeeder LEGO have created, but it is the one closest to the original. This is partly down to the new bricks and tech, and partly because the designers spent so long going back and studying the original.
VIP members can pick up this alll new LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder 75144 on April 29th for an advanced copy. But, to be honest, isn’t it more fun to get it as a Star Wars Day celebration?
