A LEGO Ghostbusters set may not be the most obvious set for kids theses day but the new 2016 Firehouse Headquarters 75827 model is definitely targeted at an older audience. There is a recommended age rating of 16+ on this LEGO set because of the complexity and finer details and, to be honest, the majority of fans of the original film are much older than that. For many, this grand building will be a centerpiece for a collection, something unusual for LEGO fans to build and show off to their friends. Having said this, the design of the rooms, the use of characters and the accessories mean that this is made to be played with.
If you are looking for a way to introduce the concepts of Ghostbusters to your kids, this LEGO set provides everything they need to chase those strange things lurking in the neighborhood.
This enormous firehouse Headquarters currently ranks as the 3rd largest LEGO set ever created and the scale of this three storey building really is quite impressive. With 4634 pieces to put together, there is definitely a lot of work to put into this model to make sure that everything looks perfect. This includes the details on the exterior, such as the signs and streetlights, and all the carefully crafted elements for the interior. The walls of the station open out to provide easy access to all three levels. On one side the characters can climb up to the lab via the staircase and on the other they can slide down the pole to head out on a call.
There are nine different mini-figures in this set so the main Ghostbusters and the supporting cast can play their part in capturing and dealing with the ghosts. In theory, Slimer and the Pink and Blue Ghost should be safe in the station’s containment unit but those pesky ghouls can get anywhere! Before you know it, they could be messing up the kitchen or heading out the building. This set has the nice added touches of slime to ooze through the cracks in the pavement outside and transparent arms so the ghosts can hang onto the outside of the building as if they are floating.
Once the ghosts are finally secure, the heroes have two options – either continue their hard work and analyse their findings or take a well-earned break. The scale of this set means that there are plenty of rooms to play in and each has some great accessories. The ground floor is the public area with the main doors, desks and alarms, the 1st floor has all the living areas – a bedroom, bathroom and a well-stocked kitchen with an arcade game in the corner – and the top floor is for work – even if there is also a large pool table up there. On this upper floor the team can run tests in the lab and develop photos from the camera in the dark room.
This massive 2016 LEGO Ghostbusters Headquarters 75827 set is a great way of bringing the fun and the action of this classic film to life.
Because of the attention to detail on the interior and exterior of this three-storey building kit, there are so many opportunities for adventures. Chase the ghosts, solve the case, play a game of pool and do it all again the next time Slimer gets loose or someone makes that call.
