There is a theme with many of the LEGO Disney Princess sets that the company have designed so far. There is a princess, a grand castle and a romantic scene with a ball, a picnic or some other interaction with a prince. As you may expect from a Brave-themed LEGO set, there is no romance or handsome prince here. Instead, it is all about the flame-haired Merida, her bear family and her determination to succeed in the highland games.
Merida has the chance to practice her skills for the highland games, but her brothers aren’t helping.
With the highland games quickly approaching, Merida needs to practice her technique for a chance of winning. The local environment and archery set up provide her with some great opportunities to improve. There is an archery stand with a clear target and a bow. Players can move the target further and further away to make things more difficult for the Scottish princess. The addition of the stream and camp fire means that she can also practice her skills at fishing, and reward herself by cooking her fresh catch over the flames.
This all sounds brilliant in theory, but Merida does have an unfortunate problem distracting her from her tasks. Her triplet bear brothers are hanging around and causing a nuisance. It is hard to concentrate on a shot or stake out a fish when there are little playful bears around. Luckily, Merida does have a trick up the sleeves of her pretty blue dress. She also has a catapult that is just the right size to fire cookies out into the woods. With the bears distracted on the hunt for a sugary treat, she can get back to her archery. There are three cookies included in the set, one for each brother.
When she has finished practice, or had enough of her brothers’ antics, Merida can retreat to the castle.
The castle build of this LEGO Princess set is pretty simplistic, as the outdoor elements are the main selling point. Even so, it is a pretty build with some nice features. There are vines and flowers creeping up the stonework, there is a grand golden flag flying from the top and a big purple door that matches the details on the turrets. Inside is a dinning table where the family can sit and eat the fish caught and cooked on the fire. It is the perfect way to end the afternoon, as long as one of the brothers hasn’t run off with the key again.
The last thing that Merida wants is to be hunting the door key in the forest. The problem is that with so many outdoor elements to the build, there are lots of places for the naughty bears to put it. It could be in the stream, in the box that holds the cookies, behind the large spotted red toadstool or even up in the tree. The details of this set, accessories and inclusion of the three bears means that this LEGO Disney Princess 41051 Merida’s Highland Games set really is a Disney set with a difference.
