There have been complaints in recent years from older LEGO fans that the elaborate sets that the company design are too limiting for kids because it just teaches them to follow instructions and enjoy one single building or ship. The 3 in 1 LEGO Creator sets are therefore a great alternative for parents that want kids to get more from a set of bricks because each set provides three models that players can break down, rebuild and chose between as they wish.
There are many different directions that these sets can take and each works on a basic theme to provide alternative options in a new scene or adventure, for example providing a selection of vehicles for mini-figures to use, different shops for a street scene or different animals.
1. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Pirate Ship 31109 Set
Pirate themes are always going to be popular with players – big and little kids alike – because of the broad themes, interesting features and the sense of nostalgia. The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Pirate Ship starts off with a chance to build a cool pirate ship in full sail. It is ready to hit the high seas ready for adventure and has a small crew of a minifigures to keep them on course. There is also a parrot, a figurehead for the front, cannons, an internal cabin and shark following along behind. From there, players can turn this set into the destination of their choice. Did the pirates land at the cozy Pirate’s Inn where they can rest and have some rum? Or, did they end up on Skull Island? The chance to build both of these fun sets means that kids can dictate the story and take the ship apart as much as they like.
2. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Deep Sea Creatures 31088 Set
Kids that like the Pirate Ship set and anything else to do with adventure on the ocean may also appreciate the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Deep Sea Creatures. this set lets you create buildable deep-sea creatures out of a series of red, white and blue bricks. These simple designs make it easy to switch up the figures but they are still interesting and diverse enough to give kids a fun lesson in marine biology. The main build here is the shark, complete with lots of big teeth. He also has a little crab friend helping him guard a treasure chest. This means that the set complements the pirates and other sea-themed models. From there, you can create a striking angler fish with little red prey, or a flexible squid. The poseable fins, tentacles, claws and other elements help to make this set even more tactile and educational for younger builders.
3. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Underwater Robot 31090 Set
Sticking with the underwater theme, there is also the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Underwater Robot. This is great for those that want to take a more hands-on approach to deep-sea exploration and also like the idea of creating fun, posable robotic elements. The main build here is the underwater robot that can explore the reefs and trenches looking for signs of life, treasure, and anything else that kids can come up with. He has flexible limbs and grabber on his arm for interactive play. Players can then turn the set into either a submersible vessel with manipulator arms or an underwater crane. The set comes with a sea plant and golden nuggets to collect for study. But, players can use pretty much anything they have from other sets. There is also a cute buildable manta ray swimming around to see what you are up to.
4. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Outback Cabin 31098 Set
Players that like the idea of an adventure in a slightly different landscape then the treacherous Caribbean seas may enjoy the chance to build the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Outback Cabin. This little rustic cabin is home to a couple of minifigures and provides the ideal base for life on the land. They have a modest home with a mailbox, lights and a skull over the door. They also own a kayak which they can use to head out to the river and catch some fix. This will cook nicely on the campfire. Just be aware that there are a wolf and eagle in the neighborhood too. If the cabin is too sedentary, perhaps the couple would prefer living in the canal boat in one of the alternative modes. Or, you could turn the cabin into a bird-watching hide for a better view of the eagle. Either way, this is a great set for those that love the great outdoors.
5. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Caravan Family Holiday 31108 Set
The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Caravan Family Holiday works on a similar theme to the Outback Cabin with an emphasis on fun and adventure in the great outdoors. The main build here is the Caravan itself. There are both the caravan for the little family to live in and the family car to take them to their destination in the forest. The caravan is pretty well equipped with the kitchen and toilet. However, there is the chance to make upgrades as necessary as turn this set into a larger campervan. The camper is a little more modern and deluxe with an opening roof and lots of space for the three minifigures. It is a great base for activities like kayaking, fishing and hiking, with all the right equipment included. There are also fun brick-built animals like the beaver, skunk and blue jay for added fun.
6. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Riverside Houseboat 31093 Set
If the idea of the canal boat and a quiet rural life on the river is appealing, this next riverboat model could be a fun choice. The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Riverside Houseboat is a pretty little houseboat that can sail down river and along lakes with ease. The boat has a nice deck where there two minifigures can sit and relax, or maybe take time to fish the waters with the little mounted fishing rod. Just be careful that the buildable pelican doesn’t take your catch! There is also an interior area with the cabin and a place to sleep. Outside is a little crocodile – or perhaps an alligator if you want to set this in Florida instead. Players can then change the build into a Seaplane or a Fishing Village for a whole new story. The plane allows for spare bricks for a dock and the village has a cafe, pier and fishing boat.
7. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Fire Dragon 31102 Set
The idea of getting back to nature with these fun outdoors builds is great for kids that have a love of the natural world. But, the joy of LEGO is that you can also build all kinds of creatures – including fantasy ones. The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Fire Dragon offers just that with a colorful dragon. This mean-looking creature has big claws, broad blue wings, and a fire element for his breath. He is crouched over a chest of treasure, ready to guard it against any brave minifigures that might show up. From there, players can rebuild the dragon into other scary creatures, including a giant scorpion and sabre-tooth tiger. This not only makes the set more interesting long-term, but it also means that players can build the creature they feel is the most worthy foe.
8. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Fairground Carousel 31095 Set
Or, perhaps the fairground is more your thing for a bit of summertime fun. The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Fairground Carousel is an interesting set that centers around an interesting ride. There are different spaceships attached to the colorful “UFO” ride, ready to take minifigure children into pretend orbit. The mechanics of the wheels mean that you can turn a handle and let the characters rise up and pin around. The set also comes with a little bench where parents can watch, a ticket stall and an ice cream vendor. It is an attractive and colorful set that is appealing enough on its own. However, there is also the chance to rebuild the ride into a Ferris Wheel or a Free Fall. Essentially, you can become your own little traveling carnival and add the ride of your choice in other sets and towns in your collection.
9. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Townhouse Toy Store 31105 Set
On the subject of towns and urban areas where you can set up a ride and entertain children, there is also this LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Townhouse Toy Store. The toy store is a fun two-storey building and also a nice age-appropriate alternative to the more complex 16+ Creator modular town buildings. This one is less detailed but still a lot of fun with interior and exterior features. The parent and child minifigures can have lots of fun finding a new toy in the store or playing on the moving ride outside. The great thing about this fun 3-in-1 model is that the little family can have a fun shopping trip by transforming the toy store in a cake shop and a flower shop. Additional details like the streetlights, outside seating areas, gumball machine, awnings and more help to make this an interesting build with lots of opportunities for creative play along the way.
10. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Sports Car 31100 Set
This next 3-in-1 LEGO set takes us into the world of vehicles. The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Sports Car will be appealing to any young builder with an interest in cars. The main build here is a bright red sports car with a white racing stripe on the aerodynamic hood, a white spoiler and a powerful motor. There is also room inside the cab for a minifigure to sit behind the steering wheel – although there isn’t one included here. Players can then turn the modern sports car into something a little more retro to mix things up. The hot rod car makes a big statement and it great for racing around LEGO resorts. Alternatively, players can turn the car into a sleek black and red private plane – because the owner of the fancy sports car clearly has some money to spend and a lavish lifestyle.
11. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Monster Burger 31104 Set
The next vehicle option is the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Monster Burger. The main build here is a curious design because it is so unique. The body of the truck is a burger van, complete with the menu and side window for service. There is also a fun model of a burger to advertise the merch from the top. Accessories suggest that the couple at the wheel should sell quite a few roadside burgers with the little seating area, parasol and buildable burger. Even their pet dog comes along for the ride. But, by night it is a different story with the monster truck chassis and wheels. The couple can rebuild their truck into a tractor and trailer for another side job, or into a fun off-road vehicle. This quirky set is sure to be a big hit with a lot of young builders
12. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Monster Truck 31101 Set
The Burger Van isn’t the only monster truck in the 3-in-1 LEGO series. There is also this LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Monster Truck too. This is a fun build because it offers kids the chance to build a cuter little Monster truck in blue and yellow, with the massive tyres, impressive chassis and lights on the top. There are also extra parts and red bricks to make a tiny car for scale – or maybe to crush under the treads of the truck in a competition. A secondary mode lets players create a smaller muscle car for racing and a cool start line for a race track. Or, there is also the dragster car with its combination of the big and small wheels, the cockpit, long body and the spoiler at the back. This means lots of different ways to play at being competitive racers in all kinds of situations.
13. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Sunset Track 31089 Set
If the idea of racing around in a drag racing or other racing car sound like a lot of fun, kids might also be interested in the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Sunset Track set. The main build here is a cool racing car with a curved body, spoiler, and little “glass” elements for the lights and windshield. The design is a lot cruder than the car models in older 16+ or 18+ creator sets. But, there is is still a sense of style here with the color scheme. This still looks like something that would cruise the streets of an ocean-front city. There is also the chance to turn the car into a more vintage model with the classic race car, which gives the player a chance to adapt the car to their preferred style. Or, there is the opportunity to take the model on the water with the cool speed boat configuration.
14. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Rocket Truck 31103 Set
Another fun 3-in1 vehicle set is the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Rocket Truck. Here you get a series of “rocket-powered” models that allow for a creative situation in off-road scenarios. Depending on your child’s collection, these vehicles could prove to be great options as getaway vehicles or ways to deal with difficult terrain in strange lands. The giant off-road tyres on each model help here, as does the cool acid-green and white colour scheme. The first build is the truck, with its impressive mechanics and rocket engine. Kids can then turn this into a more practical off-roader or a quad bike depending on the needs of their minifigures. This one is less about racing other drivers and more about keeping character safe in a dangerous environment and, as such, is perfect for more imaginative kids
15. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Dune Buggy 31087 Set
On the subject of off-road vehicles, there is also a 3-in-1 LEGO set that focuses on this way of getting around. The main build in LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Dune Buggy is the dune buggy. This fun model has a lot of features you would expect for exploration over sand dunes and other difficult terrains. There is a sleek body in a fun blue and yellow design, good tyres with plenty of grip, headlights at the front, and a roll cage in case minifigure drivers get into any accidents – which is possible for many creative players. One of the alternative models is a heavy-duty version of a quad bike with large wheels and a rail at the front to hold on to. The third model is a little plane, just in case characters get really stuck in the middle of nowhere and need to call for help.
16. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Race Plane 31094 Set
LEGO adventures with vehicles don’t have to involve four wheels on the ground. There are also a few aviation sets too. The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Race Plane is a great choice for those that like the idea of racing an old-fashioned plane. The fun design in blue and yellow has red details, chequerboard decals, landing wheels, cockpit and the all-important propeller. It comes with a pilot to fly it and some flag for the route. This is great for a bit of friendly competition. But, there are other models that you can create in case of an emergency. Turn the plane into a fighter jet or a helicopter for different adventures. Each model has its own character but retains many of the most important features, such as the landing gear and tinted cockpit for safety. They all allow for fun missions in all kinds of situations.
17. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Propeller Plane 31099 Set
The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Propeller Plane is another classic idea that is great for young builders that love the idea of flying and piloting planes to interesting locations. The smart design of this fun little plane is perfect for action-adventure role play with other LEGO sets. The spinning propeller and adjustable wingtips mean that this is ready for action to land in remote wildernesses, take part in rescue missions, or anything else kids can come up with. The fun blue and orange plane then transforms into either a faster jet plane for military missions or a little helicopter. The helicopter is fun because it has the added bonus of a buildable landing pad. There may not be as many features here in this set, but there is enough room for kids to expand on ideas and get really imaginative with their stories.
18. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Futuristic Flyer 31086 Set
Then there is the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Futuristic Flyer. The name of this LEGO is interesting because it suggests a more modern adaptable flying model for impressive missions and adventures. It all starts with the main jet model. This is a stylish plane that you would expect to see on sci-fi missions. It has a fun aerodynamic shape with the sleek nose-cone, thin wings and spoilers. There is also a cockpit and a flame-effect for the jet engine at the back. Kids can have great fun pretending to be pilots on important missions as they race around. From there, the set turns into either a spaceship or a robot, to really take this futuristic angle and sci-fi storytelling to a new level. In many ways, it is like having a cross-over between LEGO and Transformers because of the rebuild-able elements and the cool robot design, only this gives kids a lot more to work with for creative adaptations.
19. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Twin Rotor Helicopter 31096 Set
The LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Twin Rotor Helicopter is another fun way that kids can take to the air with their LEGO builds. The main build here is the helicopter itself with the synchronised rotors. This is great for kids that want to learn a little more about how helicopters work. There is also a fun gameplay element to this model as it is one of the few 3-in-1 LEGO vehicles to come with a minifigure. The pilot can use the winch and the cargo bay to collect and deliver items. This will work well with all kinds of other sets and scenarios. From there, players can transform the helicopter into a supersonic jet for high-speed missions or a hovercraft. Again, the hovercraft is an interesting choice for kids that want to know how things work. There isn’t anything else like it in the range
20. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Space Rover Explorer 31107 Set
If your kids want to explore a little higher than the airways, why not give them this LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Space Rover Explorer instead. Space travel is a really fun theme because it gives players the chance to take science-themed sets like these explorers and bring in other elements of the extra-terrestrial world. In this case, the main build is the rover explorer. Players can set up the clever piece of kit with its traction wheels, a large screen at the front and a working crane. This crane should allow the minifigure astronaut to find evidence of life or interesting geology and analyse it in the lab onboard. However, there is also a little buildable alien out there to study. After the mission, players can reconfigure the rover into a space base or a space flyer. Presumably, the latter will come in handy if the alien doesn’t approve of you turning up in his territory.
21. LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Shuttle Transporter 31091 Set
Finally, we have the LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Shuttle Transporter for a different look at space travel. It isn’t enough for astronauts to have cool rovers and gear for use on the moon or on Mars, they also need to be able to get into orbit. So, the main build of this shuttle transporter is brilliant for nerdier kids with an interest in space exploration and NASA. You get the shuttle, with its classic shape, and a blue and red truck to take it to the launch pad. Load it on the trailer and set off. Each of the secondary builds also plays with the idea of the trailer and transportation. There is a smaller truck with a landing pad for a little helicopter or a caravan hitched up to a car. This diverse set means a lot of different stories for kids to create and ways to play.
