It can take a lot of hard work to start a new city and expand its potential and for every new building that is made, some old ones have to come down. Construction and deconstruction are important aspects of creating a brilliant LEGO collection full of the best buildings and lay outs so it makes sense that among the different ranges in the LEGO City collection, there is a set of LEGO Demolition sets. These sets call out to the young child that loves to play with brightly colored trucks and wrecking tools by providing vehicles and work-sites with lots of features. They bring more detail, accessories and more of a story to the situation to help players bring more depth to their growing LEGO City.
Six Brilliant LEGO City Demolition Sets to Inspire Young City Planners
LEGO City Demolition Starter Set
For parents that are looking to give their kids a taste of what these construction themed sets have to offer, without going straight for the big vehicles, there is the LEGO Demolition Starter set. The set up of this work site is pretty simple; there is the beginning of a building section for the included mini figures to work on, a front loader to carry all the materials and rubble to and from the site and a series of tools and accessories to add to the story.
This also includes the toilet, water and pipes. There are three workers available to drive the vehicle and use the jack hammer and sledgehammer and they are taking their orders from the megaphone-wielding foreman. Once each minifigure has been assigned their task, they can block off the area with the cones and get to work to clear the area and load up the awaiting truck.
LEGO City Demolition Site Set
If kids find themselves enjoying this demolition themed area of LEGO City then there is a building set that takes a similar approach to the purpose, just with greater detail and more of a story for the minifigures to act out. The LEGO City Demolition Site gives more variety than the starter set by splitting the building into three sections – one to tear down, one to knock down and one where only explosions will do.
There are five characters included this time, mainly because the project is so much bigger and there is more to tackle, and they are equipped with even more tools and accessories in order to deal with the demolition of the building. The front loader is back to collect all the mess and there is sure to be a lot to transport once players use the jack hammer, shovel and dynamite. Just watch out for rats when using the wheelbarrow.
LEGO City Demolition Service Truck Set
The front loader and wheelbarrow are a good starting point for taking parts away from the demolished buildings but it takes a little more work to get a site completely cleaned up and ready to hand over – especially when there is still a portable toilet on site that needs to be moved. This is where players call upon the LEGO City Demolition Service Truck to come and help out.
This 13cm long truck has a trailer that can be attached to the back to transport the toilet safely and there is a crane to lift it on board. It also comes with some great additional features. There is a shovel and jack hammer so workers can help out with any left over demolition, a broom and bin to help tidy up the mess, some barriers and a fire extinguisher for health and safety and, because this is sure to be a long job, a mug for a coffee break.
LEGO City Demolition Driller Set
Not all LEGO City Demolition sets are big scenes with large vehicles for impressive projects; sometimes kids just need the right tool and the right additional mini-figure to finish off the job. This is where smaller add-on kits like the LEGO City Demolition Driller model come in. There may only be 40 bricks to this set and one very happy mini figure worker in his orange suit and hard hat, but he can be put to work at any of the other worksites that kids might own.
His driller is a tough little vehicles that can manoeuvre around the debris on its thick tires to get into the right position to dig up the concrete of the old foundations. There is plenty of room for the character to climb on-board, so he can use the levers to operate the hinged arm of this yellow drilling machine, and plenty of opportunity for imaginative play.
LEGO City Demolition Excavator and Truck Set
The prospect of having impressive vehicles to drive around the worksite will always be appealing to kids, especially if they have moving parts. This means that the LEGO City Demolition Excavator and Truck should definitely be a big hit with young players because there are two important machines here and they both have interesting working features to bring the actions of the work site to life.
The two worker mini-figures have a tough job ahead of them and have brought in the excavator to help them out. As one worker uses the jack hammer and dynamite to tear down their section of the building, the other can climb into the excavator and operate the moving claw. The truck has an opening tailgate and tipping bed so players can sweep up all the rubble with the broom, shovel it onto the moving conveyor belt and load it up.
LEGO City Demolition Bulldozer Set
Last, but certainly not least, there is the vehicle that all kids will want to get their hands on for some impressive demolition – the LEGO City Demolition Bulldozer. This heavy duty machine should make short work of the condemned building section with its moving blades and players can also use the jack hammer and dynamite to finish it off.
When the building is no more than a pile of bricks, it can be taken away in the wheelbarrow. While this could have been a very simple set with one driver and little more than those moving parts to keep players entertained, there are some nice added touches to the set that parents will appreciate. There are two demolition work minifigures included in the set, one of which is a women for gender equality, and there is also a pair of ear defenders for them to use while operating the heavy machinery.
