Nostalgia is a powerful thing and the best LEGO sets help us tap into that through various themes and designs. This new ICONS Lion Knights' Castle 10305 Lego Set takes this to another level by reimagining an old set and improving upon it. In 1984, LEGO released the King's Castle set.
At the time, it was an impressive build with its imposing walls and fun characters. But, nearly 40 years on, there is the potential for so much more. So, we now have a far more complex LEGO set for adults that allow for new details in the structure, story elements, and characters.
Battle For Queen And Country With A Magical Army And Strong Castle
Let's start with the structure of the castle. You can build a large fortress that opens up to reveal interior scenes and moving parts. On the outside, there are the classic shapes and grey brings of the towers and portcullis, but you also now get detailed Tudor-style building work on top. There are also nice features with the water, moving drawbridge, and flags.
Inside, players can set up the living quarters and armory to prepare their army for battle. there is also a mill area with a working waterwheel. It is little details like this across the set that make it great fun for teenagers, adults, and the whole family.
This impressive settlement needs some inhabitants that are ready to fight for it. So, you will also find the queen, her knights and archers, and a wizard. Additional figures within the 22 minifigures provided include forest people - presumably the aggressors - and some horses.
A Fortress Like This Takes A Lot Of Work
A lot is going on here and players can spend as much time setting up scenes and battles as building the castle. You can decide whether you want to defend the castle or try and storm it. But, it is going to take a lot to knock this structure down. there are 4514 pieces in total, which means a lot of planning and careful masonry, and this creates a large fortress. The closed model is 38cm high, 44cm wide, and 33cm deep.
The original model of the King's Castle was a classic and the work that has gone into this ICONS Lion Knights' Castle 10305 Lego Set design means it is a worthy successor. There is no doubt that today's builders will love this one just as much.
