Marvel Superheroes LEGO sets are among the most popular with kids of all ages because the scenes and characters create opportunities for vivid stories and battles. This is often done with greater depth and imagination than many other themes. Marvel Super hero LEGO sets are currently far more diverse than those of DC because they follow the stories of the Avengers, X-men and Guardians of the Galaxy in great detail. Each sub-theme is full of fun building kits, vehicles, battles and collectable minifigures to keep players entertained for hours.
The Avengers continue to defeat Hydra and other villains in epic battles across the world, the X-men continue to fight Magneto in the battle of the mutants and Star-Lord leads his odd group of friends against Ronan through the galaxy. Here is a brief look at some of the key players and must-have sets that are available so far.
Iron Man LEGO Sets
The style of the Iron Man suit and the charm of Tony Stark means that it is no surprise that LEGO have put out a large range of Iron Man building sets in their Marvel Collection. Stark has created many suits over the years for different purposes, and this means lots of minifigures and buildable figures to collect. These characters range from the Mark 42 suits of the Iron Man movies to the large Hulkbuster – seen in the LEGO Super Heroes The Hulk Buster Smash kit – and the larger poseable replica of the LEGO Super Heroes Iron Man set.
Iron Man’s ongoing role in the Marvel films means that there are plenty of scenes for the designers to take inspiration from and there are great battles and play sets that have been taken from Iron Man films and the Avengers movies. Players can flee the attack on the Malibu Mansion with Pepper Pots, do battle in The Mandarin Ultimate Showdown, protect the Avengers Tower from Ultron and chase after Loki and the Cosmic Cube. Spiderman LEGO Sets
Spiderman must currently hold the record for the number of reboots and re castings that have occurred. With each new version of the character and each new film, there comes a range of new costumes and villains to collect. This can only continue to grow now that the new Spiderman has been revealed via Civil War, but for now there is still a great range of LEGO Spiderman sets to collect. The Rhino and Sandman Super Villain Team-Up brings two deadly rivals together while Spiderman receives help from Iron Spider. In the Carnage’s Shield Sky Attack set, meanwhile, Spiderman works with a Shield agent to defeat Carnage.
The other selling point with these Marvel LEGO sets is the attention to detail in the vehicles and buildings. Spiderman has a trike that he can use to chase Electo, a chopper that is ideal for hunting down the Green Goblin on his glider and a Spider-cycle in the showdown against Venom. As for the buildings, there is none more iconic in Spidey’s New York than the Daily Bugle, which can be built in fine detail in the Daily Bugle Showdown. To see the full list of sets, head to –

Captain America LEGO Sets
Captain America is the all-American hero that kids love to take into battle and he is the perfect leader in the battle between Shield and Hydra. His strength, skill and leadership are all put to the test in a great range of Marvel LEGO sets from the three Captain America movies and the Avengers series. Hydra, Redskill and Von Strucker provide a tough battle in sets like Captain America vs. Hydra and the Hydra Fortress, but each Cap Minifigure is ready to go with his shield, motorbike and help from key allies like Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Hulk.
Of course, the must-have Captain America LEGO sets right now are the ones that are taken from Civil War, and there are plenty to choose from. There is the action packed Crossbones’ Hazard Heist and the fast-paced Black Panther Pursuit, which brings a new vigilante into the Marvel LEGO universe. The most impressive, however, has to be the Super Hero Airport Battle Set because not only does it provide all the airport buildings and accessories to send crashing down, it comes with minifigures of all the key players and a Quinjet. Thor LEGO Sets
Many LEGO fans reading guides such as this, and product listings online, will have noticed that there are some obvious gaps in the market when it comes to LEGO Marvel Superheroes sets. It is arguable whether the most popular characters have the most sets already – such as Iron Man and Spider Man. But, there will be many wondering where the Thor sets are, especially as LEGO seemed to bypass him on the way to Doctor Strange. The good news for builders is that there are two new LEGO sets that place the focus on our Azgardian hero.
The LEGO Thor Superheroes sets place the action in the alternative world, with plenty of Thor’s allies and villains. Thor is a clear lead in both, complete with his hammer, costume and other weapons. There are also appearances from Loki, Hela, Valkyrie and Fenris the wolf. Another key character in the first of these sets is Bruce Banner, which allows for interesting battles. This is especially true in the Thor Vs. Hulk: Arena Clash set, which could become an epic battle to the death. The other set brings in a spacecraft – something unusual in these Marvel sets – with the Ultimate Battle for Asgard set. This is potentially the start of something impressive, with this whole new style and world to create. It is one that collectors and fans should love. See the sets here –

Hulk LEGO Sets
In many ways, The Hulk is an ideal candidate to be turned into a LEGO figure – he is a fun character to play with, his size means that he can be turned into a buildable, poseable scale model, and he has a habit of smashing up everything in sight when the mood takes him. This means that players can build some great detailed sets based on the Marvel universe, and then enjoy tearing them apart in battle. It also means that Hulk can be a good guy or a villain depending on the story. This is used brilliantly in the LEGO Superheroes The Hulk Buster Smash set.
Because The Hulk has not spun out into his own movies for a while, most of these LEGO sets use him as a character in scenes from the Avengers movies. One of the best examples is the Hulk Helicarrier Breakout, where Hulk’s anger can be used to capture Loki and put him back in his cell. In Hydra Fortress Smash, Hulk can aid Captain America and Quicksilver as they attack Hydra to retrieve Loki’s staff. In the Hulk Lab Smash set, he can use his strength to rescue Thor. Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO Sets
The majority of the Marvel LEGO Super heroes building sets revolve around the Avengers and Shield, which means that the characters and scenarios intertwine and their universe continues to grow. There is a separate adventure being played out in space, however, and that this the story of the Guardians of the Galaxy. So far, the range of sets is limited as there has only been one film, but the popularity of the characters and the upcoming sequel means that this is sure to expand.
A great starting point is the The Milano Spaceship Rescue set because it provides many of the main characters – including Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax – in an impressive spaceship battle against Ronan. Star-Lord is also the lead minifigure in the Starblaster Showdown set, where he flies his Starblaster alongside a Nova officer to defeat a Sakaaran. Alternatively, players can opt for a set with fan-favourites Groot and Rocket Racoon, where they help them escape from the mining colony on Knowhere. This Knowhere Escape Mission also includes a 5 inch tall figure for scale. For further details on the current Guardians of the Galaxy range check out this link –

X-Men LEGO Sets
Another Marvel franchise that separates itself from the Avengers and Shield is that of the X-Men, Charles Xavier’s team of misfit mutants that band together to save the world against the villainous mutants under the control of Magneto. As the movies continue to explore the timeline and create new versions of the well-known characters in new scenarios, this has paved the way for a great line of Marvel Superhero LEGO sets. The LEGO Wolverine Chopper Showdown Set, for example, give players the chance to enjoy a tough aerial battle against Magneto with an impressive helicopter and motorbike.
It is all about the characters with the X-men franchise, and there are plenty that lend themselves to being immortalized in minifigure form. The X-Men vs. The Sentinel building kit is a great example of this because it does more than put these two characters against each other. Wolverine is after The Sentinel in the Blackbird jet, and he has Cyclops and Storm beside him to help when Magneto shows up. The Wolverine Chopper Showdown, meanwhile, enlists the help of Deadpool. This could be one of the only sets to feature this X-rated character. To learn more, head over to –

Ant-Man LEGO Sets
Ant-man is a relatively new addition to the Marvel movies, with one solo movie and a brief appearance in Civil War under his belt, but his popularity and the potential of the character means that there is plenty of opportunity for Ant-man LEGO sets, especially if Marvel go on to make Antman 2 or a spin off with The Wasp. The great thing about Ant-man as a LEGO figure is that there are three versions: there is the normal sized Ant-man, the tiny ant-sized version with super-strength and now a Giant version.
The Giant Version is used to great effect in the LEGO Super Heroes Super Hero Airport Battle set, where players can create the buildable figure to take on Iron Man and War Machine and aid Captain America and the Winter Soldier as they try and escape. There is also the LEGO Superheroes Marvel’s Ant-Man set that comes straight out of the solo movie. Here Ant-man can ride around on the back of the flying ant to chase after Yellowjacket and trap him in its pincers, while also trying to avoid the stud shooters and catapult. This is also the first set to include Hank Pym.
Doctor Strange LEGO Sets
The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes – 76060 Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum set is yet another new Marvel LEGO Superheroes set for 2016 that lets keen fans dive into the universe through LEGO bricks. The difference here is that we are taken into an entirely new world with new characters, accessories, sets and even new elements. This is sure to be the first of a number of Doctor Strange sets, but it is a great starting point.
The gameplay of this LEGO Superheroes set is actually pretty interesting for a teaser kit. The story of this set is not the explosive, action-packed style seen in the Avengers-based options. Instead, the magical, supernatural elements of Doctor Strange and his world are emphasised. Doctor Strange, Karl Mordo and The Ancient One are up against a portal monster with moving eyes, teeth and tentacles. They best way of defeating it is with magic. There are artefacts and spells strewn across the room and fun levitation points for the characters. Doctor Strange even has a levitation cloak.
The set offers more than buyers may initially expect and is a great set for all ages. The 7-14 age range will enjoy the new designs and unusual elements and older collectors will appreciate this introduction to the Sanctorum and characters. Go here for the Doctor Strange LEGO Set –
