Disney LEGO sets have always been popular with fans of the company and children looking for a set where they can unleash their imagination. The Disney Castle 71040 Set takes this to a new level by providing even more bricks, accessories and opportunities for creative play.
The first thing that is striking about this model is the scale. This building measures over 29 inches tall, is 12 inches deep to house all the different rooms and is made from more than 4000 bricks. In addition to this, there is a great sense of detail in the design – both inside and out. The iconic tower and stone bridge have been recreated with care, there are gold elements to the turrets, ornate brickwork and flags. Inside, the room are full of intricate details like the tiled floors, light fixtures and the decorations – such as coats of armor, candelabras and curtains.
This 16+ rated LEGO set castle comes with five classic Disney characters as mini-figures, but more are welcome.
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are both waiting to greet visitors as the mascots of the company (Mickey looking the part in his tuxedo), Donald and Daisy Duck are there too in their classic outfits and Tinkerbell is there to spread a little fairy dust over the place with her magic wand. There may only be the 5 figures, but this is still a very character-driven model. This is because there are lots of different rooms with different themes.
At first the entrance hall of the castle looks a little straightforward with the chandelier and suits of armor, but there is a magic carpet and accompanying lamp. Upstairs players find a room that appears to be suited to Belle, with the rose in a glass case and candelabra, while the room above that has elements reminiscent of Fantasia. Inside the tower, the lower level is designed to look like the ideal kitchen for Cinderella, with the stove, broom and a pumpkin in the corner should the Fairy Godmother appear. The floor above that contains the spinning wheel that sent Sleeping beauty into her long coma. It is the fourth floor that is perhaps the most alarming, however, as there is a very suspicious red apple next to a golden mirror.
There is so much going on with The Disney Castle 71040 Set that it will take lots of patience to build, but it is a great project for keen fans that want a centerpiece for their Disney-inspired collection or the ultimate play set for their kids.
