The Colosseum in Rome is understandably seen as one of the new 7 wonders of the world. The work that went into creating this structure was extraordinary, especially when you consider that we don’t see it in its full glory anymore. The ruins in the center of Rome are iconic and a great way to learn about engineering, design and the history of entertainment in that era. A scale model like the Colosseum Creator Lego Set 10276 provides the perfect opportunity to recreate that structure and get to know it a little better.
This complex LEGO set is the perfect way for collectors to test their building skills and see how the Romans created this grand structure.
There are three storeys in total, making this one of the largest architecture Lego models. The main build focuses on the amphitheater with a 360 degree design and plenty of seating in the stands. Apparently, the real thing is big enough to hold 80,000 spectators, so that is a lot of bricks to fit together as the structure expands up and out. From there, you also get to build what remains of the external structure of the building. Much of this has been lost to time, but one side of the building still retains striking detail with the many arches and columns. This is where you get that tall, 3-storey part of the build and a lot more complicated elements to play with.
This could have been enough for a realistic and engaging way to create the biggest replica of the Colosseum. But, the designers at LEGO went further. They decided to give collectors the chance to build everything they possibly could for a complete set and something to show off to friends and family. This means that there is also the hypogeum, the area of the Colosseum that is underneath the floor and out of sight of the public. This decision is brilliant for collectors that chose this set out of a love for Ancient Roman history. From there, you can set the building on its thick baseplate. This structure has paving stones and olive trees to accentuate the scale. It also makes the finished build sturdy enough to pick up and examine.
The Colosseum Creator Lego Set 10276 isn’t going to be for everyone.
There is some niche appeal to this set because of the fairly monotone look of the bricks, the focus on ancient history, and the sheer scale of this 18+ LEGO Creator Expert set. However, those that are intrigued by the design and the lessons on offer should have a great time building this iconic model.
