There really should never be an age limit on LEGO because the basic concept of these bricks and the potential for creations and imaginative play is instilled in us from playtime as young children right through adulthood. What changes is the type of model we create and the bricks we use.

1. Gringotts™ Wizarding Bank – Collectors' Edition
Parents looking for hard LEGO sets for girls into Harry Potter will appreciate the new Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collectors' Edition. This 36cm high tower contains nearly 5000 pieces and takes builders above ground and underground. The top piece is the bank building with its decorative interior. Then, characters can enter a cart and use a mechanism that stops the cart at each of the three vaults on the spiralling track.
The biggest charm for teenage girls is the chance to recreate lots of movie moments across the different levels. The cart can help Hagrid and Harry locate the vault with the Philosopher's Stone. Later, a disguised Hermione can pretend to be Bellatrix while breaking in. There is even the massive Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon in buildable form for the top of the building. Meanwhile, plenty of goblins are hard at work with their keys and letters under attack from the Death Eater.
1. ICONS Pac-Man Arcade 10323 Lego Set
Teenagers looking for cool Lego sets can’t go wrong with the ICONS Pac-Man Arcade. The original arcade games may have been long before Gen-Z’s time, but there is an appreciation for these classic machines and arcades are back in fashion. This 5000+ piece set lets fans create both the replica cabinet with its graphics and a model of the internal gameplay. There is also the mini mini version of the game to put out on display. This comes with a cute little gumball machine and a minifigure player.
There are lots of great features inside and out with the design of the game, the buildable characters on top, and the little light brick for the quarter slot. The model of Pac-Man chasing Blinky and Clyde is great as they have reversible ghost faces to simulate the moment where the hunter becomes the hunted. While this isn’t playable in the same way as a video game, it is engaging with all the mechanics and a great way to honor the original game.
1. Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle and Grounds
The new Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle and Grounds is an impressive example of big LEGO sets for girls. This 2660-piece scale model lets teens recreate the whole castle, complete with grounds. What makes this even more delightful for teenagers is the use of moments from across the series. There is a big nod to the Goblet of Fire here, with the Durmstrang ship rising up from the Black Lake and the Beaubaton carriage flying in for the Triwizard Tournament.
The are also earlier moments with a small replica of the chamber of secrets built into the rocks and the crashed Ford Anglia in the trees. Inside, there are important classrooms and towers, and there are also all the necessary external areas like the courtyards and greenhouses. It may not be as interactive as other models that go into detail in the interior, but it is beautiful. It is a great choice for Potter nerds who want to see the realism of the castle and contextualize scenes and locations.
1. Disney Castle Lego Set 43222
The new Disney Castle has to be the best new LEGO for teenage girls right now because it is so grand and contains so many fun features. The main build is that classic Disney castle from the resort, complete with its iconic color scheme and structures. There is also the cute detail of the stair bursts for When You Wish Upon A Star. Minifigures of classic princesses and princes add to the magic and transport players to the resort. The set then opens up to see the rooms inside, making it playable for younger builders.
The small details are impressive. There are furnishings and accessories straight from Beauty And The Beast, Fantasia, and more. The magic mirror, rotating dancefloor, and concealed spinning wheel are fun extras. Teens should be aware that there are nearly 5000 pieces to this set so it will take some patience to build from top to bottom. However, with much to discover and 8 prince and princess minifigures to play with, it is great value too.
1. Star Wars Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser
The range of Star Wars LEGO sets for teens is really expansive these days. Not only are there various scenes and buildable models from the original series, but it delves into other sub-themes. This Star Wars Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser takes builders into the world of the Clone Wars. Still, even those who just love Star Wars ships will appreciate this unique model. This one is 109cm long and imposing as an attack ship and display model. The combination of the red and grey bricks also gives it a different look to other sets.
Most of the appeal here is in the building process to get this ship complete and ready for display. However, there are also some minifigures to tie this into the franchise further and aid with creative play. The internal features of the ship include the command bridge and hanger where Captain Rex and Admiral Yularen can lead their men with ease.
1. Lord of the Rings Rivendell Lego Set 10316
LEGO sets for teens are getting bigger and bigger. The best pop culture LEGO set with most pieces right now has to be the Lord of the Rings Rivendell model. This set blends the fun of interactive play with the complex build of an over 6000-piece set. The scene is perfect for reenacting scenes from the first part of the trilogy, with the 15 minifigures to play with. The Fellowship is there, along with Bilbo and Elrond.
The set is impressive with the level of detail to the buildings and the grounds. The soft tones and the autumnal trees add to that elven vibe and make the set more engaging. There are areas for Frodo's bedroom and Elrond's study, as well as the gazebo. The hobbits, elves, and assorted friends are all included in the box so teens can have a lot of fun telling the story, or even retelling it if preferred.
1. Marvel The Amazing Spiderman
There are some brilliant Marvel LEGO 16+ sets out there that over comic book fans the chance to celebrate their heroes. The new Marvel The Amazing Spiderman model takes the form of 3D wall art for something bold and exciting for a bedroom wall. The image shows Spiderman seemingly crawling down a building and out of the frame. The effect is achieved via some clever engineering of the poseable hands around the bottom of the frame.
It is a simple design in many ways, with big blocks of red and blue to depict the suit. However, there are over 2000 pieces required so it will take some work to complete. It retains the charm and deep saturated color of the comic books, and the logo in the corner adds to that effect. To top it all off, fans can also find a link to a compatible soundtrack with their purchase. This should make the building process even more immersive.
1. ICONS Tranquil Garden
The ICONS Tranquil Garden is a fun option in LEGO sets for girls because it combines an easier build with a beautiful garden design and Japanese theme. Teens with a love of Japanese culture, such as through anime or film, will appreciate the features of this little garden. The star feature is the teahouse on its little island, with the greenery and trees around it. Like all the best Japanese gardens, there is also a red bridge between the two.
The most complex part of this entire build is the creation of the bamboo and the cherry blossom tree. The latter is quite exaggerated but still very pretty. This cute little garden is understated compared to some other models but in a good way. It will look great on display on a bookshelf next to DVDs and Manga. The fun bonsai-style display stand elevates that further.
1. IDEAS The Insect Collection
Families looking for the best LEGO sets for girls may appreciate this nature-themed set. There are three models to build in total, all of which are detailed and anatomically correct. This provides a great learning experience for kids or a chance for budding entomologists to expand on their passions. The designer put a lot of effort into making this set as realistic and informative as possible to share his own love of insects.
The three models are diverse but all stunning to look at. There is the tough Hercules beetle, with its wings coming out from underneath the black shell, a vibrant blue morpho butterfly, and a praying mantis about to strike. All three are poseable to make the most of the features and include natural-themed display stands. This helps place the creatures in a more natural setting and makes them even prettier out on a desk. On top of that, this 1111-piece set also comes with a link to a Green Noise playlist for a whole new building experience.
1. ICONS Eiffel Tower 10307 LEGO set
Teenagers looking for a big challenge may ask what LEGO set has the most pieces. The new ICONS Eiffel Tower is hard to beat with over 10,000 pieces to put together. This one may be beyond the patience level of a lot of teens because of the repetition in the forms and the general theme. However, those with a love of architecture or France could leap at the challenge. It is certainly a statement piece for a Parsian-themed bedroom once it is finished.
The model recreates the tower in precise detail over 4 parts. This means every metal girder and beam in that unmistakably elegant shape. Once complete, it reaches 149cm high, so needs plenty of room on display. The authentic details throughout the set are impressive. These include the flag on top, the viewing platform area, and the scale gardens below. The gardens are sweet with their little benches and finish off this little taste of Paris really well.
1. IDEAS Viking Village
This IDEAS set is something a little different for those looking for girls' LEGO sets. On first impressions, the idea of a Viking Village may seem more masculine. However, there is one minifigure here with a difference. A Shield-maiden is hard at work in the forge, creating armor to help defend her people from attack. She also has the chance to mine for ore in the caves. She lives in this village alongside the blacksmith in his smithy, the chieftain in his home, and the archer up on the defensive tower.
The whole set is beautifully designed with the different timber builders and snowy scenery beside the water. The set also comes with plenty of features for the interiors, accessible via removable roofs, and authentic costumes for the figures. It is something a bit different and highly engaging where teens can enjoy the building process and create some heroic storylines along the way.
1. ICONS Eldorado Fortress Lego Set 10320
The new ICONS Eldorado Fortress is one of the more exciting LEGO sets for teens right now because of the potential for creative play and adventure. There are two ways of looking at this story depending on how kids want to play. On one side, there is the highly decorated command protecting the fortress from any outside threats. The guards look great in their uniforms and are ready to man their canons when under attack.
The white brick fortress is certainly too pretty to see destroyed. However, there is also a gang of pirates that really want to sneak in and take over. Players may prefer to use the little rowboat to get ashore and try and avoid the prison cell. The boat is also a fun decorative piece with the sails and rigging. This detailed set is one that is full of joy and imagination.
1. Ideas Tales of Space Age 21340 Lego Set
Teenagers with a love of all things space-themed will love the chance to build these four beautiful art panels. This Ideas Tales of Space Age set is one of the best LEGO sets in 2D art because of the clever use of colors and shapes. This is a fan-made Ideas design, which explains the more quirky nature of the pieces. They look like retro posters more than LEGO sets. There is a graphic style that works great in contemporary bedrooms. The simplicity of this set means it is a relaxing pastime for any teen builder to work on in their spare time.
Each panel has a different colored background with graduated tones and a fun feature on top. The blue panel has a comet streaking across the atmosphere, the orange has moons over a red planet's surface, the pink has a stylized blast-off from a rocky terrain, and the green has a ringed planet. Together they complement each other well in any arrangement via the included wall mounts.
1. Technic Yamaha MT-10 SP
The Technic Yamaha MT-10 SP is a fun alternative LEGO for boys who want more than just cars in their collection. This one replicates a powerful bike that is very stylish with its bodywork, wheels, and blue detailing across the model. As a basic build, it is a lot of fun building up the parts into a road-ready bike.
However, the other reason that teens will love this model so much is that it is part of the Technic range. This means they can get to grips with realistic working parts and features on a whole new level. This 1478-piece set contains the 4-cylinder engine, a detailed gearbox, steering, wheels, and more. There are even little blue lights to help illuminate the model and add character. From there, builders can use the app to see the model in greater detail. Once complete, it sits proudly on its complimentary stand, ready to be shown off to friends and family.
1. Architecture Himeji Castle
Japanese-themed sets are always a hit with teenagers who love the culture and Japanese aesthetic. However, some models aren’t as challenging as others. Those who want to push themselves with a big 16+ set can try the Architecture Himeji Castle set. This is one of the better large LEGO sets for girls in this theme because of the beauty of the building, the authenticity of the setting, and the challenge of handling over 200 pieces.
The set lets teens build a beautiful scale model of this Japanese landmark building. There is a great 360 view of the architecture and all its intricate stories. The top of the modular build then lifts off to give builders access to the interior. The castle sits on its high rocky platform above the to-scale grounds below. These pretty manicured gardens include a series of trees and blossoms. This set requires plenty of dedication but the right teen will appreciate the challenge and enjoy the finished model for a long time.
1. Star Wars X Wing Starfighter 7535 Lego Set
The Star Wars X Wing Starfighter takes a classic model and updates it for 2023. As a result, it is one of the most compelling Star Wars LEGO sets for boys yet. The scale of the model is a big upgrade. There are just under 2000 pieces that go into creating this 55cm long model. This includes pieces for the cockpit and details on the moving wings.
The adjustable wings are easy to use with the dial on the top and add some dynamism to the model on its display stand. The appeal for teens continues with the addition of the minifigures. The Luke Rebel Pilot figure is ready for action, with new details on the suit and a lightsaber, and is accompanied by R2D2. The moving parts and figures mean that kids can still play with this model and recreate scenes with ease.
1. ICONS Chevrolet Corvette 1961
When we talk about cute Lego sets for teens, normally that means something Disney-based or with fun characters. However, it is hard not to call this ICONS Chevrolet Corvette 1961 cute compared to some of the others out there. It is a great introduction to a car collection for those who are interested in old models rather than the more high-end characterless sports cars.
There is so much 1960s charm to this car and the final model is really attractive. For a start, there are the classic lines of the red body that are straight out of that vintage era. The 1210-piece set lets collectors create the exterior and interior, with access to the seats and working steering. There is also the option to turn the car into an open-top model, which could make it more adaptable for creative play than some other cars. Those more focused on the mechanics than the story will appreciate the engine bay, radiator, and other realistic elements.
1. Star Wars Chewbacca
Ask many adults who their favorite Star Wars character is and you will get a lot of people saying Chewbacca. He was a creature of few words but a massive impact on the screen. Now, LEGO has released one of its best 18+ LEGO sets for Star Wars fans with their Star Wars Chewbacca. It is one large buildable model that creates Chewie in all his furry glory from the ground up. Unsurprisingly, this requires a lot of brown bricks in the over 2000 piece set and leads to a figure 46cm tall.
The authentic design includes a great facial expression and his trademark weaponry – which is also buildable. The set marks the 40th anniversary of _Star Wars_: Return of the Jedi, in case older LEGO builders weren’t already feeling their age, and is a great way to celebrate. He can stand proud in any collection besides the other scenes and countless ships.
1. Marvel Hulkbuster Lego Set 76201
Avengers fans may not list Age of Ultron as their favorite film in the franchise, but the Hulkbuster suit was still a must-see part of the movie. Collectors are sure to want a version in their large LEGO collection, and the new Marvel Hulkbuster LEGO Set 76201 is hard to beat. With a finished scale model measuring 52cm tall, this one is going to be a conversation starter. The authenticity in the red and gold design helps too. But it is the detail in the adaptable features that makes this such a massive LEGO set pretty cool.
For a start, this is a posable model that allows for detailed movements in the arms and hands. This puts Iron Man in a strong fighting stance. The pose also reveals three glowing arc reactors that look really cool against the standard bricks. On top of that this set for ages 16 and up contains a cockpit where the compatible Iron Man figure can set and control the suit. While this figure is sold separately, players can still enjoy the Tony Stark minifigure that is in the box. This is an interesting building challenge for teens that celebrates a cool moment in the series.
2. IDEAS Table Football Lego Set 21337
The IDEAS Table Football LEGO Set 21337 offers something really interesting for LEGO builders and football fans alike. This is a Miniature table football set that actually works. The minifigures sit in their seats on the poles, like a weird fairground ride, and you can play an opposing team with ease. There are two poles per team, creating a 5-a-side style game, and the ball goes into the goal area with a scoreboard system above. The final model measures 15cm high, 41cm wide, and 29cm deep, with 2339 pieces. This, and the interactive game-play makes this a seriously cool LEGO set for teens.
A curiosity here is that there is a lot more detail in the figures than in your typical football table. There are lots of different heads and hair pieces to customize your team, allowing you to treat them as real team members, make substitutions, and build your success in the league. There are 22 minifigures in total, with different bodies for the goalies and kit designs for the opposition. You also get a separate piece to build on the sidelines, with the team seats and trophy.

With more than 3000 pieces to sort and fit together, this is going to be a challenge. But, it is a rewarding endeavor for true fans of all the books. This is because in addition to offering a scale model of the train - which happens to look stunning in its authentic colors and 118cm length - there are also various story elements.
The story develops over time through the three carriages and platform set, taking 20 minifigures of various characters and ages through the story. Harry meets his friends in the first carriage, encounters a Dementor with Lupin in the second, and is rescued by Luna in the third. The final scene shows adult Harry with Ginny waving his kids onto the train to start their first year at the school. This all makes it a must-have for all collectors.

It stands at 46cm inch high and 39cm wide, with 2961 pieces in total to put together. This will ensure that it stands proudly on display on a shelf or desk at home. This is also a very challenging set because of the limited color palette. There are lots of black bricks to get to grips with, with just enough grey details for the facial features on the mask and a little purple and blue for the vibranium elements.
What makes this large LEGO for teenage kids even more special is that it is posable. The glove aspects are highly articulated to make them more expressive and fun to build. While this does mean that you can be creative with how you set the model up on display, the intention is for the crossed arms to create the iconic Wakanda Forever salute. The set finds that middle ground between being domineering and understated with style and is worth considering for a grown-up collection.
6. Marvel Sanctum Sanctorum 76218 Lego Set
The Dr. Strange movies have grown in popularity in recent years, with many fans entranced by what goes on inside the grand Sanctorum. Well, now you can find out for yourself with the new Marvel Sanctum Sanctorum 76218 Lego Set. This set gives teenagers the chance to construct this beautiful building from more than 2000 pieces. Inside the building, you can create two important areas related to the films. The middle level houses the library, containing portals to other dimensions. Above that, there is the museum of collectibles, all of which are sure to be of use. Players can have a lot of opportunities to adapt this build and focus on the stories they want to tell. Luckily, there are more than enough minfigures to help them do so. There are three versions of Strange to make use of this building, as well as his closest friends and some of the Avengers cast. So, while this is a grown-up build, there is plenty of room for creative storytelling too. Overall, it is sure to be a lot of fun for 16+ teens and adults alike.
7. Modern Art Lego Set 31210
The LEGO Modern Art set is something completely different from a lot of the 16+ LEGO models around right now. Normally, builders get to follow a very precise plan to create a 3D model. Here, it is all about celebrating imagination and a 2D piece of art.
This is another example of good LEGO sets for girls who want to engage with their artistic side. The adaptable nature of the design is key to the appeal of this set because there isn’t really a design to follow. Instead, teenagers are encouraged to take the back panel and the colored shapes and create whatever they desire. This could be something resembling an abstract face or something more interpretive. Once complete, it can hang on the wall and then be reworked at a later date. With 800 pieces in the set, there is no shortage of bricks to work with for plenty of unique designs.
7. ICONS Christmas High Street Lego Set 10308
Car-related sets are always popular LEGOs for boys and this Technic Ford GT 2022 modern sports car is one of the best examples right now. While many adults will enjoy the older classics, teens will love this contemporary alternative with its aerodynamics and racing profile. It looks like it could be in one of the Fast and the Furious films with its striking shape and color. The racing stripe down the center is a nice touch.
The car certainly has the power to compete in one of those movies, with the moving V6 engine alongside the suspension system. With 1466 pieces in the set, there is just enough here to create the curves and functional interior to make this roadworthy. The scale, mechanisms, and aesthetic of this model mean that boys will love playing with this with their friends as well as keeping it out on display.

You can also remove the panels on the amp to look at the inner workings at the end.
This classic design from the LEGO Ideas range should prove to be inspiring for teenage musicians that want to learn more about their craft. The selling point here is the adaptability of the design. There are plenty of features that come with alternative versions to suit the tastes of the designer. For example, builders may feel the sleek grey racing stripes look better in red or white. There is also the option to make the car a convertible, change the license plate, and switch from hardtop to convertible mode.
There is a lot to love in this 1450-piece set, from the V8 engine to the bodywork. This and the extra details make this a set that keeps on giving. The finishing touches of the mechanisms for the hood and trunk, and the furry dice, make this very engaging as more than a display piece.
9. Ideas Motorized Lighthouse 21335 Lego Set
The Ideas Motorized Lighthouse 21335 Lego Set is an interesting option for builders that want to try something a little different. On first impressions, this seems like a complicated build, with more than 2000 pieces leading to a tower that is 54cm tall. From there, you also have the motorized elements to deal with. There is a working light source, via compatible bulbs, that brings a bright beacon to the top of the tower and a cozy glow to the fireplace below. That lamp at the top also rotates for added realism and makes use of an authentic Fresnal lens.
While the full building experience isn't the easiest, this is still a great LEGO set for teenagers 16+ and up. The reason for this is the fun story element you get with the set. The lighthouse is home to a lighthouse keeper and his cat, who would peacefully protect their LEGO seaside town if it weren't for the threat of smugglers. That is because a local sailor has stashed gold in a cave below. Added details like the rowboat and seagull help add to the drama, while the design of the rocky outcrop makes the tower even more imposing. It is a set that keeps on giving.

12. ICONS Lion Knights' Castle 10305 Lego Set
The new ICONS Lion Knights' Castle 10305 Lego Set is an odd set to sell to teenagers because it is so old-fashioned in its style. It isn't linked to a movie or TV franchise and the concepts are fairly generic. But, that doesn't mean that older teens can't have a lot of fun here. The basic premise is a recreation of a classic theme. Builders can create a stunning grey brick fortress, which looks pretty impenetrable once complete. This opens out to reveal the interior scene of the armory and lodgings. Some nice details here compared to the 1984 original include the finer brickwork, the details in the architecture on top, and fun new decorative details.
While this is a difficult set for older builders, there are also lots of fun elements that make it a joy to play with. You can unleash your inner child or let younger siblings join in with epic battles. This is all made possible via the wide selection of minifigures and clever moving parts. The outsiders from the forest will try and find their way in as the knights and archers make use of the moving drawbridge and trapdoors. Whether you fight for or against the monarchy is down to you, but it is sure to be a lot of fun either way.

The new Harry Potter Diagon Alley Lego Set 75978 is one of the coolest but also the most difficult Harry Potter LEGO sets because there is so much detail involved with each store.
You essentially get 6 builds in 1 with the modular approach. Teens can take their time with this 16 plus set store by store as they add in all the authentic brickwork, features and important accessories. Those stores are Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Shop, Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes, Flourish and Blotts, Ollivander’s Wand Shop, Scribbulus Writing Implements and Quality Quidditch Supplies.
Once the street is complete and ready for business, players can act out scenes and create new stories with the 14 characters included in the box. These minifigures follow the designs of the LEGO Harry Potter franchise and can do everything from getting a new wand to attending Gilderoy Lockhart’s book signing. Get into trouble with the Malfoys, buy jokes from the twins and get up to all sorts of other mischiefs.
39. Ideas Medieval Blacksmith Lego Set 21325
LEGO Ideas sets are always a great place to come if you want to delve deep into another world. The care and attention given to the sets by creators shine through in the designs and details. The Black Falcon Knights are also part of the set, and are on their way to collect some new swords and pieces of armour.

40. The ELF Club House LEGO Set 10275
The ELF Club House LEGO set 10275 is a brilliant new set for the holidays that is perfect for teenagers and group family builds. There are plenty of complicated elements here to make builders think, which is why it is a 16+ choice. For example, once you have built the main building, you still need to be able to furnish it, get the waffle-maker working, add the lights outside, and fit the telescope. The end product is a brilliant piece of LEGO design that will impress collectors of all ages.
Parents can enjoy supervising the build and the look of the finished creation. Teens can test their skills with the different elements. Younger children will love playing with the four elven minifigures, the additional reindeer, and decorating the tree outside.
The concept of this building is quite straight forward. After a long day working at Santa’s workshop, the elves need somewhere to relax and get a good night’s sleep. Builders can create a cozy space where they can relax, get a good breakfast, and wrap some of their own presents in the gift wrapping room. But, work is never far away as they have a computer with a copy of the “Naughty or Nice” list and a sleigh to take care of.
41. Ghostbusters ECTO-1 Creator Expert Lego Set 10274
The Ghostbusters ECTO-1 Creator Expert Lego Set 10274 is a new set created in advance of the 2021 Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie. This includes all the bricks for the interior and exterior of the car, a wide range of interesting tools for ghost-hunting, and also a few to create a remote vehicle.
The finished model is attractive and a great display piece, but there is also room for creative play thanks to all the moving parts.Despite the 18+ rating on the box, this is still a good choice for teens that are happy to take their time with the instructions. You can build this vehicle with your boys and girls, paying close attention to the details in the car itself and discussing the original model. You can also have fun playing with the traps and tools on the roof and debating how they will be used in the new movie. This may be the toughest Ghostbusters set yet, but it is sure to bring families together.
42. Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina Lego Set 75290
The new Star Wars Mos Eisley Cantina Lego Set 75290 is a great choice for any teens or adults looking for a more challenging build. Some of the most fun Star Wars sets have a few characters and interactive elements, but few are quite as difficult as this 3000 piece LEGO set.
There are lots of pieces of sandstone to create the iconic building, details for every individual booth within the cantina, a bar in the centre, and a host of other elements to add to the story. The end result is one of the biggest sets, which then opens out to reveal the bar inside. You can also remove the roof.
One of the most surprising things about this largest 16+ Star Wars is the range of characters. There are 21 people/aliens/creatures here. That’s a big cast for all kinds of important scenes. You can recreate iconic moments or devise your own storylines in this “wretched hive of scum and villainy”. When it all gets too much escape on the ridable Dewback or in one of the buildable landspeeders. With so much to build and do, this set is going to keep fans busy for a very long time.
43. 1989 Batwing 76161 Lego Set
LEGO never fails to impress when it comes to Batman-related sets. They are able to take classic ideas, from scenes to vehicles and more, and create sets for all age ranges. While there are those that would call the 1989 Batwing 76161 Lego Set an adult LEGO set, there is no reason why keen fans 16+ can’t enjoy putting it together too.
This big LEGO set is all about the Batwing and lets builders create a detailed replica complete with poseable flap and a detailed interior. Each layer in this over 1000 piece set leads to a complex design with the classic Batman logo shape and the cowl features on the cockpit. 44. IDEAS Grand Piano Lego Set 21323

The new IDEAS Grand Piano Lego Set 21323 is no different because of the level of detail that has gone into the realistic structure of this hard model. The adult-friendly piano is a perfect miniature with lots of delicate black bricks to put in place to create the classic shape.
There is also a lid that props up to reveal all the hammers for the keys, an adjustable stool and a music stand. This comes in useful at the end
Once this difficult model is complete, with all 3000+ pieces in place, you can then set up the moving parts and Powered Up elements. This is where teens and younger builders may get a better appreciation for this replica. It may have an 18+ rating but it will be fine for younger builders with a keen interest in music and the patience to get this right. Each key connects to its own hammer and works with the app to play songs. You can let it do its own thing on the auto-play feature or play along on the keys. Either way, this is an interesting build for music lovers.
45. The Super Mario Brothers Nintendo Entertainment System 71374
If you want to add a cool LEGO set to your teen’s collection, this Super Mario Brothers Nintendo Entertainment System 71374 is a great choice. While this is listed as an 18+ model because of its 2646-piece complexity and theme, there is no reason why a dedicated teen builder can’t see this as a 16+ set. You do need to put some work in to complete all the elements.
But, those that love gaming and a LEGO challenge will figure it out.
It all starts with the NES console itself, which ends up looking precisely like a miniature of the real thing. There is also a buildable controller with wire and authentic buttons. It is a cute replica that teens may appreciate if they know their gaming history. Once complete, you can open the slot and put in the buildable Super Mario game. Then, it is time to set up the TV with the moving screen. The game plays out within the old-fashioned TV set with the turn of a handle. The colours and image are just like the first level of the original game. All the fun moving parts and buildable elements of this large LEGO set make this a must-have for any gamer.
46. Architecture Statue of Liberty LEGO Set 21042
Architecture Statue of Liberty LEGO Set 21042 is one of the best versions of this iconic monument that LEGO have come up with yet. There have been versions in the past that let builders recreate the structure of Lady Liberty in as much detail as possible. Some are more effective than others. This one is a little different because it focuses as much on the plinth as the woman standing on top. Therefore, it is a more realistic depiction of the statue as a whole and an attractive choice for LEGO Architecture fans.
The statue portion of the build has nice realistic green brickwork and attention to all the folds in the robes. She is attractive with her torch raised high and her signature crown. She stands on a large sand-stone plinth with lots of detailed and difficult features all around the four sides. You get more than 1000 pieces to recreate the full monument and tourist attraction. In addition to this, there is a display plate and an information booklet in both French and English. This completes the set nicely and makes this big LEGO set for adults a popular addition to a collection.
47. Architecture Dubai LEGO Set 21052
The city of Dubai is a magical place that immediately makes us think of opulence and stunning architecture. So, it makes sense that LEGO wanted to include this destination in their skyline Architecture series. Architecture Dubai LEGO Set 21052 gives builders a chance to create scale models of key landmarks on a smart display plate. It is a great way to bring a little of Dubai to your collection without focusing on one building. This is ideal here because the five elements are all so different.
You get one of the best scale model builds with 33cm version of the Burj Khalifa. The fine detail on the brickwork means that this 740 piece 16+ model requires some careful thought and precision. At the base of this tower sits the tiny Dubai fountain for a sense of scale. Other models are the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel and the Dubai frame. The intricate features and extra details on the display stand mean that this is an advanced model that will look stunning when complete. This is a cool LEGO set for fans that want to expand their horizons a little with their architecture collection and build something a little more challenging.
48. Architecture The White House LEGO Set 21054
The White House LEGO Set 21054 is an interesting set for all those that love the LEGO architecture series. American landmarks are always popular and you can’t get much more famous than the White House.
This is one of the best large LEGO sets yet and lets builders recreate this residence in three stages – the main residence with its oval office, dome and columns, the east wing, and the west wing where all the drama happens. There are just over 1000 bricks in total for a detailed replica. Some of these bricks are for the additional garden that finishes off the 47cm long model with a bit of class.
The complexity of the build, the number of pieces and the grown-up theme mean that this is an adult Lego set with an 18+ rating. Grown-up builders will love the challenging nature of this big set chance to recreate such an attractive replica of this historic building. It isn’t going to offer any opportunities for creative play for the kids, as there are no moving parts or minifigures. Instead, it can sit proudly with other American sets from the LEGO Architecture series and impress fellow collectors.
49. Crocodile Locomotive Creator Expert 10277 Lego Set
LEGO train sets don’t have to be just for kids. There are also some impressive, realistic models out there that are perfect for adults. The Crocodile Locomotive Creator Expert 10277 Lego Set is a great example of an adult LEGO train that brings us a beautiful scale model with moving parts, intricate details and some nice bonus features added to the set.
The scale model uses detailed bricks in realistic colors to shape the original train and you can also add Powered Up components if you choose to. Once finished, it sits at 52cm long on its display rail so that it can take pride of place in your collection with other big LEGO sets. There is also a little informative plaque to add at the end.
This isn’t going to be an easy build as this is a 1000+ pieces set with a range of tiny details. So, it is no surprise that this is an 18+ model. Younger kids aren’t going to appreciate the design or the history in quite the same way anyway. But, that doesn’t mean that older builders can’t have a little fun with this model. It comes with two minifigures who can drive and maintain the locomotive. This is a unique set and one that is sure to appeal to many LEGO collectors with a love of trains.
50. The Disney Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse Buildable Characters 43179 LEGO Set
Buildable characters are a fun way to bring something new to a LEGO collection. One of the most recent sets is the Disney Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse Buildable Characters 43179 Lego Set. Here you get the chance to bring Mickey and Minnie to life in brick form.
The shapes and poses on these models show just how far LEGO has come in its creations. What could have been an awkward, blocky build is actually true to form. Even the poses have some life in them. Mickey holds a soapbox guitar in one hand, with the other hand poised to strum a tune. His raised leg makes it look like he is dancing along with the music. There is no doubt that he is serenading Minnie, who looks on affectionately with a bunch of flowers in her hand. The addition of the old-fashioned camera on its tripod and the photo album are a nice touch.
This more than 1000 piece LEGO set is a challenging build with all the 3D elements and proportions. However, it all comes together nicely on the film-reel displays stands. This 18+ set has to be one of the coolest Disney sets around right now and one that will be a labor of love.
51. The Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 Technic 42115 Lego Set
There are lots of car-themed builds in the LEGO universe, many of which sit statically on display in a collector’s room. But, the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 Technic Lego Set takes things further. This model goes beyond the initial build with fun features and interactive elements. It all starts with the build on this 3000+ pieces LEGO set.
This is challenging enough with all of the carefully molded elements and interior pieces on this stylish car. You can create the stunning green body and get those classic scissor doors in place. Then, you can use the Technic features to get the engine running. Watch the pistons move and change gear to get it ready for a high-octane race through the town. Finally, there is the curious addition of the overnight bag and the code for online content.
This is one of the hardest LEGO sets out there and the additional content explains why this is a LEGO Set for adults. But, there is still an element of fun and creative play that you don’t always get from these sets. The Lamborghini Sian is available from June 1st and should be a great addition to your collection.
52. Haunted House Creator 10273 Lego Set
Haunted houses are always full of surprises, and none more than the new Haunted House Creator 10273 Lego Set. This advanced set is one of the most challenging for adults because there is more here than meets the eye. You see, this isn’t a completely static model. Once you complete this build, and the grand house stands proud in your collection, you can use the Powered Up app to play some tricks on friends and family. Let them give the diverse range of mini-figures a tour – led by the tour guide and some “friendly” ghosts – and watch their faces as you make the lift plummet and the lights flicker.
These creepy details are just a small part of what you can enjoy when you step foot in this detailed old house. Each room in this set has lots of decorations and interesting artifacts. This isn’t going to be an easy build to get this all together, especially as this is a more than 3000 piece LEGO set. But, the little details and classic tropes across the model make it all worthwhile. This is an unusual set, but one that is sure to captivate 18+ collectors for hours.
53. Star Wars A-wing Starfighter 75275 Lego Set

The Star Wars™ A-wing Starfighter 75275 Lego Set is a stunning model that replicates the sleek shape and firepower perfectly. You can carefully craft this fighting ship with attractive red and white bricks and all the important details and transport yourself back to Return of the Jedi. As this is a more advanced adult set, there is an 18+ age recommendation. The small, intricate design requires more than 1000 pieces and some skill and patience. However, it is worthwhile for the great look of the final build. Naturally, LEGO has included a display stand and information plate to finish it all off nicely. They also added a minifigure pilot and pivoting laser cannons for fun. With so much to create and enjoy, this complex A-wing set should entertain fans for a long time. The set goes on sale on May 1st.

55. Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay 21322 Lego Set
The pirate theme is one that will always stand the test of time as older players and younger generations lose themselves in the adventure. That is why the Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay 21322 Lego Set from the LEGO Ideas range will be so popular. The set takes inspiration from a 1980s classic to provide a new adventure for Redbeard and his crew. This time, they are shipwrecked on an island and in search of buried treasure. The crew can come up with their plan in the quarters, make their meals in the kitchen and drink plenty of rum in the tavern. There is even a set of functioning cannons, just in case any enemies show up.
The Lego set is full of details and complex elements with more than 1000 pieces. This challenging Lego set might seem a bit mean for all those big kids that want to play too, but they can help with supervision. That said, the detail and nostalgia of this set mean that it really is one for the adults. This corner building brings together an authentic 1950s diner, a boxing gym and a recording studio for three new scenarios for the minifigures of the town. They can get fast food from a rollerskating waitress in the diner, head up to the boxing gym to train in the ring or with the weights, or perhaps up to the recording studio to record some new songs. All three units in this build are advanced builds with difficult details that will be challenging but rewarding.
There are 2,480 pieces here on the main build, the interiors and the exterior scenes. This includes the pieces for the pink Cadillac outside. The final result is stunning and unique with new elements. There is a strong retro design with new pink and teal elements, a cleverly curved design, unusual staircase and much more. Yet, at the same time, it looks perfect beside the other Creator Expert buildings.
57. LEGO Millennium Falcon Set 75192
OMG! 7000+ piece massive Lego set! There are some LEGO builders that may assume that a Star Wars set wouldn’t really be classed as a 16+ set. However, this isn’t the case at all with the LEGO Millennium Falcon Set 75192. A ship with 8 mini-figures and a bunch of interactive accessories and weapons doesn’t seem like the perfect display piece or long-term building project. Yet, this is such a complex and the biggest LEGO set of any kind so far, that it would have been difficult for LEGO to lower the rating at all. Younger players will appreciate some of the smaller versions of the Millennium Falcon where there is a balance between the build and the creative play.
This is one of the hardest Lego sets to date! Here die hard fans can spend hours piecing together the 7541 pieces in this challenging Lego set to make sure that every single element is in precisely the right place.
The result is a craft that is the most precise version of the ship possible. The fine detail runs from the sensors and weapons on the exterior to the hidden compartments and living quarters within. The additional selling point with this updated 2017 model is the choice of crew. It is up to builders whether it is the original Han and Chewbacca or the older version at the helm. Additional minifigures here include Leia, C-3PO, Rey, Finn and BB-8.
58. LEGO Disney Castle 71040 Set
Disney Princess sets are often seen as the theme for younger builders. Kids can create the castle of their favorite characters and spend their time playing out scenarios with the minifigures and accessories. The Disney Castle 71040 Set is immediately different because it is classed as a 16+ model – kids can play with all the rooms and characters when its finished, but it needs the patience and skill of older builders to put it together.
This is because of the vast number of detailed parts. There are more than 4000 bricks in this 29 inch high model and lots of rooms. Every room has its own décor, all the turrets have finely crafted brickwork and flags and there are other elements like the clock.
The set also comes with 5 classic characters – Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Tinkerbell – and lots of interesting accessories, such as the pumpkin, spinning wheel and magic carpet.
59. Ideas International Space Station 21321 LEGO Set
If you ever felt like the space-themed sets in the LEGO universe weren’t realistic enough, the Ideas range has something new for you. A NASA fan has merged his love of space travel and of LEGO sets and designed an intricate 16+ set that is all about the International Space Station. Collectors can build the structure down to the finest detail with all the little satellites, antenna and some tiny elements that capture the finest details. There are also lots of solar panels to install on the eight rotating arms. The result is one of the coolest space sets for adults yet.
The Ideas International Space Station 21321 LEGO Set is made complete with some aspects for creative play, a supportive display stand and a thick booklet of information about the station. You can pilot a shuttle with two astronauts up to the station so that they can begin their missions. Send them out on spacewalks for major repairs and launch satellites to help with international relations. There are more than 800 bricks in this complex build so you need the patience for this set. Still, the love that went into the design is clear and will inspire fans to put a lot of care into getting this right.
60. Creator Expert Fiat 500 Lego Set 10271
The Creator Expert Fiat 500 Lego Set 10271 is something a bit different for adults that aren’t so keen on the fancy sports cars than you can build from LEGO bricks. The Fiat 500 brings us a build that has a sense of nostalgia because of the classic mid-century design. Kids aren’t going to recognise this but older generations will love it. That is why it is great that LEGO made this a Creator 16+ set for a higher difficulty level. There are almost 1000 pieces to this cool LEGO set. This means lots of detail in the interior, moving parts and classic design elements.
Another fun thing about this set is that there are accessories for creative play to set the scene. This should help to draw in any teen curious about this vehicle. You also get a truck to attach to the back of the car and a range of art materials for the owners. This adds a nice story to this large LEGO set that you don’t always get with vehicle builds. This is a car that you can enjoy taking your time over as you set up the engine and other smaller parts. When finished, it will look great on display with its soft yellow finish, especially if you already own the Trevi Fountain or Venice sets.

62. IDEAS Dinosaur Fossils Set 21320 Lego Set
The LEGO Ideas range has long offered fans the chance to bring new themes and opportunities to the table. Some get to bring their geekiest passions to life in brick form for fellow enthusiasts to enjoy. This is the case for the LEGO® Ideas 21320 Dinosaur Fossils set. This cool model lets builders create three 1:32 scale models of dinosaurs – a Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Pteranodon. They are also poseable for a little extra customization. Each forms part of an impressive display with additional accessories and a minifigure palaeontologist to set the scene of the natural history museum. The explorer that found these skeletons was also lucky enough to find an egg.
There are lots of bones to put together to create each detailed model, with 910 pieces in total. This is why this challenging set is classed as a 16+ model for adults that love their dinosaurs. But, the fine details are important for that sense of realism. The finished models do look like real skeletons and look great beside the tiny human skeleton. This set isn’t available until November 1st 2019 so there is plenty of time to add it to your wishlist. This is a unique set that will become a conversation starter whether you are a dinosaur nerd or not.
63. LEGO Harry Potter – Hogwarts Castle 71043
Is this the largest Lego set ? When the LEGO designers decided to sit down and design the ideal Hogwarts set, they really didn’t hold back. This castle set is as grand on the inside as it is on the outside. The exterior has all the courtyards, towers and fine details expected. There is even Hagrid’s hut and the Whomping Willow. Inside there are different classrooms and offices – each kitted out with clever features from different books. There is also the Room of Requirement and the Gryffindor common room. This all means plenty of adventures to act out.
The amount of pieces in this set shows why this is regarded as one of the toughest Lego sets yet. Harry Potter may have a wide fan base, and younger children will love the design, but this is a model for teens. The main reason for this is the amount of work involved and the tiny details. There are 6020 bricks in total in this set – including all the decorative accessories and the vast cast list of 27 micro-figures. This will be a labor of love for many fans, with the intricate details on the different levels and the hidden entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. Still, it is one that families will want to play with time and time again.
64. Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer 75252 Lego Set

However, few would have anything negative to say against the Devastator Destroyer used by the Imperial fleet. This huge set with more than 1000 pieces, sets the tone of A New Hope and presents the Empire as a truly frightening force. The new Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer 75252 Lego Set replicate this is in great detail with all the grey bricks for the stark exterior and the sharp point at the front.

65. IDEAS Tree House 75810 Lego Set
Most kids – and many adults for that matter – dream of creating the perfect treehouse. But, this isn’t always practical in real life. The IDEAS Tree House 75810 Lego Set gives builders a chance to realize this dream in brick form. The structure of the treehouse is impressive, from the shape of the interior rooms to the balcony areas and the winding staircase to the ground. The kid and adult minifigures both have their own spaces so adults can look after the chores and management of this off-grid home and kids can play their next adventures. It is right up there among the more than 1000 pieces Lego set category.
Each room has all the appropriate furniture and accessories to enhance the creative play. The exterior elements of the tree and landscape are also impressive and add to the remote feel of the treehouse. The large tree has a great shape and pretty canopy of multiple leave elements. These pieces are interchangeable so players can adapt the colour of the tree as the seasons change. There is also a picnic area at the base of the tree, a stream and an additional bird figure. This may be classed as an advanced Lego set, but it is one for the whole family to enjoy. Enjoy adapting the tree and the adventures all year round.
66. Empire State Building 21046 Architecture Lego Set
The LEGO Architecture range is one that appeals to a lot of LEGO builders for many reasons. The sets can combine the love of building impressive structures with an appreciation for design and history. LEGO recently added the Architecture Empire State Building 21046 Lego Set to the range and it is one of the most difficult set yet. The main reason for this is the scale. At 55cm, it is the tallest structure in the series. This is fitting for a building that was once the tallest in the world.
It can now tower over other structure in a builder’s collection, such as the LEGO Statue of Liberty. This 16+ set mostly consists of an array of bricks that gradually rise up to form that well-known 1930s architecture. The shape is true to the original building, right up to the antenna on the top. It is a structure that is recognisable anyway. Yet, it is a nice touch that the set also includes an exterior scene with the Five Avenue street and a series of yellow taxi cabs. There are more than 1000 pieces in total and lots of information about the New York landmark. So, this means plenty to keep builders entertained.
67. Stranger Things The Upside Down 75810 Lego Set
Stranger Things has become a cult phenomenon in recent years because of its incredible story-lines, paranormal tone, casting and that 80s aesthetic. Audiences are captivated by the tale and the dark side of The Upside Down. LEGO now offers fans the chance to recreate this dimension in an interesting way with the Stranger Things The Upside Down 75810 Lego Set. There are two parts to this build – the real world and The Upside Down – and the later sits underneath the former.
Trees act as supports to allow players to flip the set upside to switch between dimensions whenever they like. Each set mirrors the other in terms of structure, with the different rooms of the Byer’s house. But, they have their own colour scheme and special details. The designers have been very careful to choose just the right tones to match the feel of the show and to add as many accessories and decorations as possible. Fans will love this challenging 16+ set because of the geeky details, the inclusion of so many recognizable characters and the final look of the completed set. Even those unfamiliar with the series can appreciate the clever design choices in this flippable set.
68. The Jurassic Park: T. Rex Rampage 75936 Lego Set
Dinosaurs are something that we often try to build out of LEGO or any other creative material. There is a fascination with their size and form that starts from an early age. Now we can progress from those crude models to something more impressive and detailed. The Jurassic Park: T. Rex Rampage 75936 Lego Set is a 16+ kit that lets collectors build a complex moving model from a 1000+ piece Lego set.
The 22cm high T-Rex can move its limbs and snap its jaws to make its authority known. The scale and detail are important because it is part of a more interesting Jurassic Park-themed set.
Builders can also create the iconic gates to the park that were made famous in the original film. The set also includes 6 minifigures of the main characters to add to the story-lines. Small rooms with furniture and other accessories lie within the structure of the gate – hidden away from the patrolling dinosaurs. Protect the park, hide from the dinosaur in the bunker and try to regain control in the control room. With 3120 bricks here in total, there is plenty to keep fans entertained. Build it as a play-set or as a static collector’s item.
69. Creator Expert Old Trafford Manchester United 10272 Lego Set
Man United supporters fondly refer to Old Trafford as the Theatre of Dreams. It is a place where they go to watch their heroes and a building that evokes strong emotions around every corner. That is why LEGO had to ensure that their Creator Expert Old Trafford Manchester United 10272 Lego Set was one of the most difficult sets for adults that they could make. This is a more than 1000 piece set with so many elements to the stands, the exterior of the building and the decorative elements. It is a challenging Expert set but one that develops into something special.
That is largely because of the amount of effort that has gone into the advanced build of the outside features, with the glass-work, little statues and faithful modelling based on the real building. Everything that fans expect is right here. One of the most impressive features is the tunnel beneath the stands that leads out to the beautiful green pitch. This Old Trafford model is the sort of centerpiece to a collection that will make other supporters very jealous.
70. Harley Davidson Fat Boy 10269 LEGO Creator Set
Vehicles often make the short-list when it comes to the best LEGO sets because these complex sets give collections more to work with. It can be difficult to create convincing, working models with minimal kits. But, this Harley Davidson Fat Boy 10269 takes 1023 bricks and turns them into a sleek, authentic replica of this Harley-Davidson model. There is everything needed here – from the important components of the engine and the wheels to the details in the branding, speedometer and rims.
The red and black elements look great with the grey of the metalwork. There is also a kickstand and display stand so it can sit proudly in any collection. Another great detail about this challenging set is that there are working parts that add to the fun. As long as the build is correct, you can spin the back wheel and cause a reaction in the engine. The gear shift and handlebars also react to user interaction. This helps to enhance the idea that this is a detailed scale replica rather than a stands LEGO set. There is so much going on here that builders are sure to have other collectors and motorbike enthusiasts purring over the machine for a long time to come.
71. NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander 10266 LEGO Expert Set
The recent anniversary of the 1969 Apollo moon landing is the perfect excuse for LEGO to bring out a new Creator Expert kit with a NASA theme. The NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander 10266 set is a clever build with intricate parts that lets us recreate the moment when the Apollo 11 team touched down on the moon’s surface. The 1000 piece Lego set has lots of detailed pieces and unique elements to create the ascent and descent stages for the mission. The interior and exterior offer a fun replica of the ship with special gold landing pads and other critical apparatus.
The other fun thing about this set is that it gives builders the chance to recreate the moment. There are astronaut minifigures in authentic suits that can climb out of the craft, take their first steps on the moon’s surface and plant their flag. A nice additional touch here is the ability to leave a LEGO brick footprint behind in the dust. Other accessories, such as the camera and laser reflector, give depth to the build and the mission. This is a difficult Lego set that is sure to welcomed and be a big hit with older collectors and their grandchildren and marks the 50th anniversary in style.
72. Friends Central Perk IDEAS Lego Set 21319

73. LEGO Movie 2 Apocalypseburg 70840 Set
The world organized chaos comes to mind when looking at the Welcome to Apocalypseburg LEGO set from the LEGO Movie 2 series. The design is a mash-up of different units, businesses and scrap all piled together into a surprisingly functional community. The unique charm of the build comes from the salvaged section of the Statue of Liberty – complete with her frame. There is great attention to detail in the shape and design of the build. This is as true for the interiors of each business and hide-out as the exterior bricks and street elements. This is one of the largest Lego sets with more than 3000 pieces to assemble, this complex LEGO 16+ build will require some skill and patience.
When it is built, there is plenty here for builders and LEGO movie fans to enjoy. Each hide-out has plenty to occupy their owner and help further the storyline. For example, there are building compartments in Lucy’s hide-out for weapons and a love letter from Batman. There is even space to watch over the neighborhood in the head of the Statue. During some downtime, Lucy, Emmet, Batman and the rest of the varied cast of mini-figures can get a coffee, a haircut or a tattoo. They can also hit the gym, spa or workshop. There is so much to create and enjoy in this weird, wonderful LEGO Movie set.
74. LEGO IDEAS Voltron 21311
The aspect about the new LEGO Ideas Voltron set that is perhaps the most appealing is the link to the Transformers style of play. Younger adult LEGO builders that remember that original toys used to have fun with the multifunctional elements and way that the toys combined into a force to be reckoned with. Here there are 5 posable colored lion models to build and play with as separate entities. These lions then combine to create this massive, 40cm high Voltron figure. Builders can then pose the upper body and arms and allow him to wield his sword and shield.
This large 2,321 piece LEGO 16+ set is a nice retro call-back to the original Transforms of the 1980s. This is clear in both the old-fashioned design of the lion and the graphics on the box. Everything about this set screams the word “collectable” and fans will be proud to have this in their collection.
75. LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster 10261
Fairground themes have been popular in LEGO sets for a long time. There are many fun builds that capture the atmosphere and color of the fair with different rides, side shows and other accessories. Avid builders and collectors can add to their scenes with a new set, and many will love to own this new roller coaster. This ride is not for the faint hearted, the two trains travel over lots of dips and bend and a height of 20 inches. The set comes with fun details ling the height checker, ride controls, camera and a concessions stand. There are also 11 minifigures of different ages, including ride attendants.
The scale and level of detail in this advanced 16+ set explains this age limit. Younger kids may structure with the complexity of the track. There are 4124 pieces in total and 7 different rail elements in these huge Lego set. There are also plenty of additional decorative bricks to complete the look of the set. This attention to detail includes the reversible heads to show different emotions, the tasty cotton candy and the moving lap bars on the train cars. There is even the opportunity to use LEGO power functions here. This all ensures that this cool set is the ideal companion to the ferris wheel and carousel.
76. Star Wars Death Star Lego 75159 Set
It has always been most difficult to imagine what the Death Star looks like on the inside. We see interior and exterior shot, but can rarely correlate the two. Well, the Star Wars Death Star Lego 75159 Set is a challenging set for Star Wars fans that offers an insight into the blueprints of this infamous ship. There are three stories to this complicated build of more than 1000 pieces. On the bottom, you will find the trash compactor that our heroes must escape from – complete with moving walls. There is also a droid maintenance room and the throne room for Emperor Palpatine. Other moving parts in this hardest LEGO Star Wars set for adults to date include the super-laser and the turbo laser towers.

This includes, heroes villains and a few droids too! Many also come with their appropriate weaponry so you can create fight scenes. Enjoy the process of completing this complicated, giant 16’’ high ship so that it can gain pride of place in your collection and inspire many re-enactments.
77. LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron 42083
The LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron is a car that will stand out on any LEGO collector’s shelf. There are some incredible lines and curves to the body of this vehicle, which explains why there are so many pieces in this LEGO Technic 16+ set. There are 3,599 pieces in thsi large LEGO set that capture the style of this car in all its glory, with the aim of creating a 1:8 scale replica. The brickwork captures the two-tone blue design that motoring-fans will appreciate. There are also lots of additional details to the design with the logos on the rims, the type of tires used and the wings. There are also stickers to add some finishing touches.
Of course, this advanced LEGO Technic set wouldn’t be complete without some clever mechanics and working part to construct and play with. Builder can create the W16 engine, complete with the moving piston. There is also an 8-speed gearbox with a moving paddle and a switch for the rear wings. This all comes together to give new life to what would otherwise be a static model. This is one for those that are as interested in the inner workings of the car as the iconic design.
78. LEGO Creator London Bus Set 10258
There are two ways that the LEGO Creator London Bus Set 10258 is vehicle build for the 16+ builders. The first is the attention to detail with all the small elements and bricks to create the interiors and exterior. There are more than 1000 pieces in this Lego set with plenty of consideration to each component par. The exterior has the panoramic windshield, lights, grill, authentic tyres and a destination board. The interior – which can be accessed via the removable roof – has appropriate seating, a rear entry point and a designated cab for the driver.
The other reason is the fact that this is simply two nostalgic for young players that want to race around. Younger adults will appreciate a more simplistic model with red and black bricks and two decks. Young English players wont even recognize the elements and shapes here compared to the sleek buses they see on the streets. There are nice little touches here that provide a glimpse to the past and a social commentary that may suit older, 16+ collectors a little better. One such feature is the use of the reversible advertisements for the side of the bus – with the choice between modern day and 1950s displays. Then there is the discarded elements of the umbrella, chewing gum, can and newspaper that show the rush of the commute, and disregard of younger passengers.
79. LEGO Creator Expert Taj Mahal 10256 Set
There is a time when the royal palaces of the LEGO Disney theme become a little childish for teenage builders. They want a bigger, more grown up challenge from a difficult LEGO 16+ set instead. Therefore, what better way to increase the difficulty than with a 5900+ piece set – one depicting a real royal structure in all its architectural glory. That is precisely what LEGO fans can achieve with the LEGO Creator Expert Taj Mahal, one of the largest Lego sets. This set lets builders craft this modern wonder of the world with some impressive detail and new elements.
The scale of this model draws older builders in. The finished build is 43cm tall at its highest point. But, builders can’t forget that there are four detailed minarets to build, as well as that domed structure. It is also 51cm wide and deep. This square shape highlights the detail in each of the four sides. This means four lots of balconies and windows, four secondary domes and four sets of finishing touches with the tiles and ornate elements. Recessed arches on the raised platform finish the build nicely. This tough Lego set works as seven modular elements, for easy transportation, and sits on a series of blue base-plates.
80. Lego Creator Expert Ford Mustang 10265 Set
The Lego Creator Expert Ford Mustang 10265 Set takes a great LEGO design of a vintage car and adds a few little tweaks for this year (2019). This updated model has a clever use of different bricks, moving parts and decorative elements to create a fun, authentic vehicle. This challenging model looks just like the real thing with the ideal shape, brilliant attention to detail in the wheels and windshield and the white racing stripe. Once built, fans of this Ford model can enjoy the inner workings of the car. These clever features bring life and realism to the design.
They include the car’s V8 engine, air filter, steering system and gear shift. There are also some nice, smaller details in the design with the seats and console. On that note, players will also appreciate the amount of customization that is on offer in this build. It is possible to change the license plates, change the lift on the rear axle and swap out the spoilers and exhaust pipes.
This customizable Ford Mustang from the LEGO Expert range could be a challenge with all the internal elements and details in the design. However, it is one that is sure to impress those with a love of classic cars.
81. LEGO Creator Carousel Set 10257
The LEGO Creator Carousel Set 10257 is one of LEGO’s more detailed and impressive 16+ designs for 2017, mainly because of the range of elements, bricks and story-telling devices that players can enjoy. The story is fairly simple at its core. The carousel has come to town and a family has come to take advantage of this ride and other treats. They buy their printed ticket from the booth – a new element for 2017 – climb the ramp, choose their favorite animal and let the ride operator set it in motion. These animals include attractive, detailed swan, tiger, frog, flamingo and elephant.
The reason that this is sold as a 16+ build more suitable for teens and adults, rather than one for younger players, it the level of detail in the build and the patience required to perfect the elements. This is quite a big LEGO set with 2670 pieces, many of which go into the fine detail of the old-fashioned canopy above. This includes some tiny pieces that form a precise pattern, as well as some interesting reflective parts. The added level of complexity here is the need to hook this up to LEGO Power Functions components to get the best out of the set.
82. LEGO Creator Corner Garage 10264 Set
LEGO Creator 16+ sets provide a nice challenge for builders that want to create a diverse and realistic neighborhood for their minifigures. The modular builds come together to create nearly everything that LEGO City citizens would need. This Corner Garage build adds a mechanic, gas pump and vet to the mix. Residents of the apartments down the street can now fill up their vehicles and get tire changes. The local animals can be treated on the second floor by a skilled vet. The building also contains a new 3rd-floor apartment for a couple to enjoy.
This tough and challenging 16+ set is just as intricate and attractive as the others in the range. There are many buildings in the Creator series that have an old-fashioned charm, such as the fire station and cinema. Here there is a 1950s feel to the design of the garage. The 2560 piece set includes lots of nice brickwork for the exterior, retro signs, bay windows and all the appropriate accessories and figures. There is even an old-fashioned television for the apartment and a period scooter for the forecourt. Once complete, this corner build will fit right into the rest of the street and provide lots of opportunities for creative play.
83. LEGO Technic Porsche 911 42056
The Porsche 911 LEGO set is sold as a recreation of the ultimate Porsche design. Naturally, this means that there will be many collectors and builders taking note of the details and mechanics of this model. Keen fans will be checking to see that this 1:8 scale model really does capture the car at its best. Thankfully, the designers have paid attention to everything from the shape of the body to the use of the lights, tires and branding.
The exterior of this cool LEGO 16+ Technic product is impressive, with the shape of the orange body and the aerodynamic design. The large, low-profile tires and bright headlights definitely make an impact too. But, the more interesting aspects of this interactive model lie on the inside. The doors open to reveal a detailed cockpit, complete with a dashboard, glove compartment, gearbox, steering wheel and racing seat. From there, builders can pop the truck open for a closer look at the moving pistons of the flat 6 engine. This 2704 piece advanced Lego set is one that will require skill and concentration, but also offers a great reward at the end.
84. LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters 75827 Set
There are many LEGO themes that are geared towards younger users because of the subject matter but some, like the LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters set, are much more suitable for an older demographic. There is so much detail in the interior of this three storey firehouse and the range of characters that many elements could be lost on younger players – although there is still the fun game of capturing Slimer and the other ghosts and running tests.
There is the public area on the ground floor, the living quarters on the first floor – complete with a well-stocked fridge and arcade game – and the top floor contains the lab and darkroom for solving the cases.
The other reason for the hard 16+ rating on this set is the scale of this building project. This is currently the third largest set that LEGO have created and there are so many elements to the design to keep builders occupied.
85. LEGO Volkswagen Beetle 10252 Set
This LEGO Volkswagen Beetle 10252 Set is the sort of model that fits in perfectly with the range of LEGO sets for builders 16+. is all about creating that balance between the fun, playful elements of a LEGO model and the building project. There is still a fun element to this product, thanks to all the smaller features, interchangeable elements and moving parts, but it is also tricky to build.
There are 1000 pieces in total for teenagers (and adults into Lego) to get their hands on in this LEGO Creator Expert range model. Many of these are the azure and beige building blocks that form the car, but there are also lights, wheels, door handles and much more to put into place to turn the model into a “functional” car. There are also fun accessories like the cooler box, surfboard and beach towel, so this models can be played with on completion as part of a more diverse beach scene.
86. LEGO Creator Expert Assembly Square 10255 Set
One of the best ways to ensure that a LEGO set is most difficult for 16+ players is to make sure that there are plenty of small, fiddly bricks that need to be formed into a complex pattern. The LEGO Creator Expert designers have outdone themselves with their new 2017 release – the LEGO Creator Expert Assembly Square Set. This advanced set has more than 4000 pieces to contend with in order to create three very diverse buildings with three storeys. This challenge is made more difficult with the fact that each story contains an entirely different business with its own interior design, accessories and related mini-figure. These areas are the bakery, florist, cafe, music store, photo studio, dental office, dance studio and apartment.
If that wasn’t enough, LEGO have ensured that this 10th anniversary model contains lots of new ideas and elements. The tiled pieces have become more intricate, there are new curved pieces for the architecture and roofs and there are even new corner pieces to add a new dimension to the build. This set takes modular building to a new level and there are no short cuts with all those detailed designs. There is a lot to think about here and experienced players are sure to enjoy the challenge.
87. LEGO Creator Expert Parisian Restaurant 10243 Set
On a similar theme of different floors and stories within one street scene, there is also the Lego Creator Expert Parisian Restaurant to bring a taste of French culture and design to a teenager’s LEGO town. The two floors differ entirely. Downstairs, buyers will find themselves creating a beautiful restaurant with outside seating, where a romantic couple enjoy the service of the chef and waiter.
Inside the building there is the blue and white kitchen with all the necessary units and tools and some clams to turn into chowder. Upstairs is the studio apartment where a girl works on her paintings, with her easel and painting tools, and has the less luxurious features of her kitchenette and pull down bed.
There are stairs between the two on the outside and lots of detail to the interior and exterior, such as the restaurant front, to tie it all together.
88. LEGO Creator MINI Cooper 101242 Set
The LEGO Creator Expert MINI Cooper is a great choice for builders aged 16+ that are into their model cars and want something a little more interesting and authentic than the standard, buildable cool LEGO vehicles. This car copies the design of the classic Mk VII model through the boxy shape, the small wheels and the racing strips on the hood. Naturally, the majority of the bricks are in the classic green and white.
There are other interesting details to the car that enthusiasts will enjoy, such as the spare wheel in the trunk, the functional doors and the use of fog lights, as well as extra accessories to tell more of a story. The concept with this set is that the MINI has been driven out into the countryside for a picnic, which is why builders will also find the picnic basket, bottle and blanket to set out next to the car.
89. LEGO Creator Volkswagen T1 Camper Van 10220 Set
It is all about the detail with LEGO vehicles in the 16+ age range and collectors want more than a few bricks that roughly fit into the right shape. The LEGO Creator Volkswagen T1 Camper Van is a great example of what LEGO Can achieve when they really consider the shape of the build and the additional features. This large, 30cm long van is compiled of 1000+ Lego pieces for the most authentic look and shape possible.
The exterior definitely looks the part with the two-tone design, the roof rack and the shape of the lights and mirrors. What makes the set more interesting is the sense that someone is living in this van. The interior has a detailed dashboard but there is also a folding table and seat/bed, a closet and curtains on the eleven windows. The additional “Make LEGO models, not war” t-shirt gives some clue to the van’s destination.
90. LEGO Tower Bridge 10214 Set
Another well-known landmark available to build is the LEGO Creator Tower Bridge set. Just like the Sydney offering, this set gives builders the chance to create a grand structure with plenty of intricate bricks of different shapes and colors but there is also the ability to separate it into sections for easy transportation.
The other difference is that there is a greater element of play to this model that sets it apart and makes it more interesting.
The idea of being able to drive traffic along the bridge and stop it by raising the bridge may be more of interest to adults rather than 16 year players but the thought that has gone into the mechanism and the choice of vehicles has to be appreciated. In addition to the two fairly normal cars there is a black cab and a red double decker bus – both of which are almost as iconic for London as the structure itself.
91. LEGO Brick Bank 10251 Building Set
The buildings in the LEGO 16 plus age range are notable for their greater attention to detail in the design and a more serious theme. Kids under the age of 16 may not get too excited by the idea of the grand LEGO Brick Bank building set, with the added laundromat next door, but it makes a great addition to an ongoing collection.
In this difficult to make Creator Expert model the architecture of the bank is so striking that it works brilliantly as a static, collectors piece to take plenty of time over. This can be seen in the brickwork and the interesting elements used for the windows. There is, however, plenty going on inside as there are 5 mini-figures – the bank manager, secretary, bank teller and a mother and child – and they each have their own rooms and accessories. Players can stamp checks, sort coins, type up letters and even press the silent alarm.
92. LEGO Creator Expert Big Ben 10253 Set
16+ LEGO sets have that rating for a reason: they are still fun building set for young, creative minds but there are elements that are far too challenging for younger children. Many of these sets are play sets more suitable for adults, with a little more detail and character, but the LEGO Creator Expert Big Ben 10253 set takes builders on a different route.
This is a static display that works as a centerpiece for a collection and requires a lot of time and effort. Some of the basic building elements are great for younger players, but the detail of the removable roof, the internal bell and the clever winding mechanism for the clocks requires a more capable hand. This challenging Lego set – the fifth largest so far – is one for architecture fans that prefer the challenge of the complex build to the potential for play and stands out with its use of colors, shapes and interesting elements.
93. LEGO Creator Fire Brigade 10197 Building Set
The LEGO Creator sets for builders aged 16+ are designed to offer a different approach when the more childlike, simplistic sets just don’t offer the right look or enough of a challenge. If you are building the perfect, detailed town, a primary colored, child-friendly fire station is going to stand out.
The LEGO Creator Fire Brigade building set is the ideal alternative for older collectors because it used an old-fashioned, 1930s design for the architecture and fire engine that work with kits like the Brick Bank and Town Hall. In this Lego for adults set, there are internal features over the two storeys and a series of mini-figures and accessories; however, the main selling point is the attention to detail on the exterior. The interesting colors and shapes of the 2231 bricks lead to an interesting effect of brick and stone and there is also an attractive bell tower and sliding door for the garage area.
94. LEGO Creator 10218 Pet Shop Set
A large number of LEGO sets for builders aged 16 and up come in the form of detailed building with lots of interesting facades, interiors and stories to tell. An interesting example of this is the LEGO Creator Pet Shop where players can build two very different, connected buildings and furnish them with plenty of accessories to advance the story.
On one side is the pet shop that gives it its name, complete with a kitchenette upstairs, where the owner can restock all the toys and bones for the dog, cat, parrot or clean out the fish tank while a girl rides over on her bike. Next door, a women can decorate her townhouse or tend her rooftop garden while the painter gives the outside a lick of paint. With so many elements to each floor, fine details like the French windows and even a spiral staircase, there is plenty to keep buyers amused.
95. LEGO Creator Grand Emporium 10211 Set
Shops are attractive for many LEGO players because they offer the chance to build an interesting building with unique accessories and open up ideas for creative play. With 16 plus LEGO sets, there needs to be more of a challenge and something else to capture the interest. That is why the LEGO Creator Grand Emporium set is so appealing. The Grand Emporium is a striking department store that minifigure shoppers will flock to because of its range of goods and the high-end vibe.
This good looking building has three storeys, with flags and fine details on the outside, and each storey is kitted out with a different department. Clothes and accessories can be bought on the first floor, which also has a fitting room, there is glassware on the next floor and the final stop on the escalator is the toy store. Other interesting features include the revolving door, window cleaner and ice cream seller.
96. LEGO Star Wars R2-D2 10225 Set
LEGO’s 16+ building range gives collectors the chance to build replicas of famous models with impressive attention to detail and this is also true of the LEGO Star Wars R2-D2. This large droid is part of the Ultimate Collector series and it comes with a range of parts and bonus features to make the model as authentic and appealing as possible. Builders can carefully craft the character’s shape, right down to the controls and wires, and the moving elements, such as the arms and retractable legs, add to the sense of personality.
All these pieces and internal elements mean that this is a rewarding project for Star Wars fans. Once the project is complete, buyers have the choice of playing with this interactive model – using the computer panel and saw to get other characters out of trouble – or they can simply display it proudly beside the fact plaque and miniature figure. This is the first of the two Star Wars 16+ LEGO sets that I have come across and added to this largest LEGO sets list.
97. LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office 10246 Set
All of these buildings work to a theme and a scene to play out, which is where the 16+ rating sometimes falls down, and buyers can enjoy all the best cliches and tropes with the LEGO Creator Expert Detectives Office set.
This means the set is great fun with its details and host of characters. There is Detective Ace Brickman, Al the barber, a police women – who is there to help with all the clues in the office and the scuffles in the bar between the suspicious pool player and dart player – and also a woman in red that may end up dead by the time the story is over.
The office is full of accessories and has the benefit of a kitchenette and bathroom, downstairs is the barbers shop where Ace can get a shave, reflect in the full length mirror and listen out for gossip and next door is the bar.
98. LEGO Creator Expert Palace Cinema 10232 Set
A building with a bit of a difference is the LEGO Creator Palace Cinema because it has the fun and character of the other buildings but also the collectability of the landmarks. There are some rare pieces here that will appeal to many fans, with the dark tan, dark red and gold bricks giving the cinema a classic look and sense of grandeur to what must have been a city landmark for decades.
This is more than just a detailed building, however, as there is a ticket stand, concessions stand and a big screen for mini-figure to interact with, the chauffeur had pulled up in the limo and the photographer is ready to snap the child star inside. There is a nice mix of old and new, with the “walk of fame” side walk and old fashioned design juxtaposed with the reclining seats for the minifigures, and clearly plenty to inspire builders.
99. LEGO Creator Expert Ferris Wheel Building 10247 Set
In complete contrast to the buildings that are on offer with their heavily detailed rooms, accessories and themes, there are other structures to create that can add something completely different to a collection. The LEGO Creator Expert Ferris Wheel is precise what buyers would expect in that they can build a large scale fairground ride with associated accessories and people – in this case the pretzel, balloon and ice cream stands and the 10 mini figures operating and enjoying the rides and stalls.
What builders may not expect is the detail that has gone into the model, with 2464 pieces, boarding ramps benches and working, multicolored cars for the riders, and the fact that it can rotate if players have the additional Power Functions 8883 motor and battery. Turn the crank and watch as the carefully crafted ride works to its full potential – providing it has been assembled correctly.
100. LEGO Creator Fairground Mixer 10244 Set
There is definitely a childlike sense of fun to LEGO fairground sets but the LEGO Creator Expert Fairground mixer has so much detail in the parts and potential story-lines that it earns its 16+ recommendation. The main build is the Fairground Mixer ride, with the different multicolored cars and moving parts.
The look of this ride has universal appeal but it is the ability to add LEGO Power Functions components, to really set it in motion, that raises the age bracket. Then there is the added benefit of the glow-in-the-dark elements for night-time fun and the fact that it can be folded down to be loaded on the truck and taken to the next town. The set then has added depth with the details on that carny’s truck and the inclusion of the ticket booth, other sideshows with prizes to win, food stalls and twelve different mini-figures.
101. LEGO Creator Expert Sydney Opera House 10234 Set
One of the best things about advanced Lego sets for players aged around 16 years to adults is that they can have the small pieces, fine detail and difficulty that other sets may not allow for. Because of this, LEGO sets based on world landmarks can be great way of providing teenagers with more of a challenge. The LEGO Creator Expert Sydney Opera House set provides a replica of the Australian masterpiece in a complex structure measuring 11x25x15 inches.
This familiar building, with its interesting curves, shell-like roof and odd shapes, is recreated in great detail, including the forecourt and other external element. This is also a desirable addition for LEGO collectors because of the use of hard-to-find colours and shapes, such as sloping bricks, dark tan elements and the first blue 48×48 baseplate, that bring the building to life in a way not possible with regular bricks.
102. LEGO Star Wars Red Five X-Wing Starfighter Building 10240 Set
Now we come to the coolest Star Wars 16+ LEGO set on this list. Not all LEGO sets are about creating attractive buildings and landmarks for a town because there are also plenty of kits out there that bring users a taste of the movies. One such example is the LEGO Star Wars Red Five X-Wing, the ideal ship to recreate in brick form for true fans of the franchise thanks to its selection of 1558 pieces and moving parts.
This is the sort of model where that 16+ age rating highlights the need to find a balance between collectors piece and plaything. The description for this model shows that it is designed to be used in mock battle, with the manufacturers encouraging buyers to fire the torpedo that lead to the destruction of the Death Star and the addition of the R2-D2 mini-figure. Despite this, there is also the ability to display this detailed, 20” long model with the included display stand and fact sheet.
103. LEGO Marvel Superheroes The Shield Helicarrier 76042 Set
A rare 16+ Marvel LEGO set. The 16+ age recommendation on these kits will always be seen as an estimation by parents and there is no reason why keen builders who are a little younger won’t appreciate the work and potential involved in kits like the LEGO Shield Helicarrier 76042 set. This is a must-have LEGO set for Marvel fans as the detailed interior and exterior have been designed to match the model seen in the films and explored in LEGO video games.
With 2996 pieces, this is one of the most difficult Lego sets in the star wars category. The range of parts and features is impressive and includes the quinjets and fighter jets for the 2 runways, support vehicles and a lot of characters. The set was updated for 2015 so in addition to Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Captain America, Iron Man and the 8 agents there is a Maria Hill figure too. If that was not enough, buyers owning Power Functions parts can also enjoy the lights and rotating rotors.
104. LEGO DC Comics Superheroes The Tumbler 76023 Set
On the subject of the favorite superheroes of teenagers, there is also the LEGO Superheroes The Tumbler set for them to enjoy. This LEGO DC Comics 16+ set is definitely one for the older teenager and younger adult that is more interested in creating a precise replica of one of the coolest Bat vehicles around than in playing with it. The creators have ensured that every part means the expectation of keen fans as much as possible by carefully crafting the armored exterior, added detail to the interior and putting those massive rubber tires on the wheels.
This could be enough for kids as nothing more than a static model because the finished build and the bonus fact sheet about the real vehicle show that it is a great display piece and conversation starter; however, there is the chance to interact a little more with the adjustable top wings and the exclusive Batman and Joker figures.

Good list but I have a huge problem with what you said in the beginning about saying it’s for teens rather than kids. Teens are kids, and I feel offended when any one tells me I’m not a kid. I’m 16.
