Assemble The Avengers On The LEGO SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 Set

The LEGO Superheroes SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 is one of those LEGO sets that Marvel fans will immediately fall for and want as the centerpiece of their collection. First things first, this is a big ship with around 3000 pieces and lots of interesting new elements. There are new pieces, microbuild vehicles and even micro-figures. This model was based on the modern design from the Marvel cinematic universe and immediately takes players into the sets of the first Avengers movie and the Captain America series.

This Helicarrier is a 16+ rated LEGO set and is ready for action with some great vehicles, character and design features.

There is something important to remember about the design of this helicarrier – there are two runways on this massive aircraft (made from cool new printed plates) and this means plenty of room for the quinjets and fighter jets to take-off and land. The helicarrier is the hub of activity for S.H.I.E.L.D. This is where Fury and the agents can plan all the details in the grand scheme to cut off the latest of Hydra’s regrowing heads. The armored interior is the ideal place for the Avengers to talk out (or argue over) the battles and strategic planning. Meanwhile, the agents are on the runways trying to keep the quinjets and fighter jets running with military precision. Additional elements here include the gasoline truck, forklift trucks and road blockades. The interior is a fiddly element with all the angles and tiny computer screens, but it once again shows the attention to detail in replicating the ship from the movies.

A great plan needs some great heroes. There are 5 mini-figures included: three of the Avengers – Captain America, Black Widow and Hawkeye – and the less common figures of Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Naturally, Cap has his shield, Hawkeye has his bow and Black Widow has a gun. The choice of minifigures may not be to everyone’s liking (no Iron Man, Hulk or Thor) but the cast list reflects the Captain America movies more than the Avengers. However, there is an Iron Man micro-figure for diversified creative play. There are 12 microfigures of the cast and additional agents to use as pilots in all the jets or to sacrifice when the helicarrier comes under attack. Someone needs to draw the fire of Hydra! These micro figures are a new step in this Marvel Superheroes LEGO line and add a new dimension to play.

Finally, there are some extra touches that make this ship a little more special.

The cherry on the icing on the cake is the extra features. There is a stylish minifigure display stand in the shape of the organizations logo, a plaque with information about the original helicarrier and the ability to add LEGO Power functions elements. These power functions may add an additional expense to the kit, but they bring this beast of an aircraft to life. The spinning rotors offer the sense that this craft really is flying and add some extra peril to some of the scenes. If you don’t want to splash out on the power functions then don’t worry because there is also a lever at the back that activates this mechanism.

These moving parts, the array of fun microbuilds and the great range of characters and accessories means that players can have a lot of fun with the LEGO Superheroes SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 set You can act out key scenes from the first Avengers movie, advance the Marvel storylines with new adventures and create all kinds of chaos.
